| Here's another flashlight mod. They were selling these as a 6 pack at Home Depot the day after Thanksgiving as a door buster, $6 a pack. I was looking for a good holder for a 14650 and this just about fits. I can't quite screw it completely together because I used the LED PCB and a spring from another one for the positive connection, and the original switch/spring for the negative connection. Should have cut the + spring down a little more. The mounting for the battery/atomizer connector is a brass finish washer from the local hardware store. Altogether, with battery, <$15.
Here's some pix. Notice the chunk missing from the finger obtained while driving the switch out of the housing! (Also notice the detrius in the background amassed while making this little wonder!) Sorry for the quality of the photos, I lost the connector for my Olympus, so these are cell phone pics...
Oh, yeah. Had to use 2 connectors. First time I ruined a connector while soldering.

| the fact that you are blowing huge clouds of vapor out of something you built...
Priceless
Great job, finger will heal, BTDT.
The 14500, 900 mah is what the 905 uses.
You need to practice with the Dollarstore Macro Adapter.
There're only about a dollar.
During bad weather I've found it easier to work in the shop/lab/kitchen. A lot closer to the TV and the computer than going out to the barn.
Wife stayed home, (Dr. Mom) while I went to the grocery for some fixins, you know the one real close to the Home Depot, and again, big mistake. When will they ever learn.
The Flame flashlights were sold out. I checked the web and there are 14 Home Depots within 75 miles.

Rocket | OCD for sure. Still looking for something really cool looking to use as a housing.
I'm not quite ready to go 75 miles, but I will be going near a Tractor Supply tomorrow...

| The brass washer is a nice touch. I got some of those in size 12 and the steel ones in sizes 12 and 14. Haven't put one in a mod yet, but have them.
Maybe you could gain a little length by putting it on the outside and filling the inside gap with epoxy to stabilize the connector. A solder blob for the center connector on the inside might eliminate that spring (positive end).
Did you do the momentary switch mod? The little spring in the switch takes about 2 pounds of force to actuate. cut 2 turns and it is a little over a pound. I don't think that would come on unexpected like in a pocket.
You mentioned cutting the ears off the little pen mechanism on a previous attempt. Of the 2 little plastic pieces inside the switch that makes if click, I was sanding off the bumps on the bigger one so it wouldn't drive the little one around.
A better way looks like cutting the ears off the little one. Razor knife snip, snip, watch the fingers. The bumps make it go around and catch in the elevated position. but the ears on the inner little plastic piece is what catches and holds it there.
This is where a picture would help, but I'm comfortable and the camera is in the shop/lab/kitchen and someone else is in there cleaning (can't right now hun, I'm busy).

R | I pretty much left the spring in the switch like it was. Without the <CLICK> it doesn't take much to push it in, and considering my record with atomizers I didn't want to have one burn up accidently. I can burn them up just fine all by nyself!
I figured out about the bumps a while back (after I ruined the first switch) and use a fingernail file to remove them. Works quite well.
The brass finish washer is a tight fit, goes in and stays in fairly well. I needed a 12mm socket to drive it in. THen I took the spacer from the LED end of things, with the circuit board, took a cut lead from an LED I used in one of the prior experiments, soldered it to the center of the atomizer (after I overheated the first one. 5 of them so far, and it was the first to let go because of heat...) soldered the lead through the spacer, which also needed to have a file run over it, and soldered a spring to the center where the center connector lead was soldered. It's such a tight fit with the battery installed that I don't think I'm in a lot of danger from having it move!
And, now..I unveil...the TWELVE VOLT ATTY SMASHER!!!!

| This is the 12V computer powered Atty Smasher. I was running it right from the 5V rail of the computer's PSU, but without current limiting it was frying attys. Part of the reason I was burning through so many, but when they would stop producing 510 style vapor I would teach them a lesson and show them who was the boss!
This is also a flashlight mod, with a TI PTH08080W variable output current limited power module. The resistor sets the voltage at 4.25V and the attys seem to like it. It also limits current to 2.25A, for ~8.75 watts, more than enough to cook your favorite juice. A current measurement at the power source indicates it draws ~.75A. That would indicate 3.2Watts, but since the input voltage is higher than the output it probably is much higher. I haven't done those conversion for years, so I can't remember. Great clouds of vapor. This is a rebuild of the 5V Atty Smasher, which was a total Kludge, using a plastic piece to hold the connector, loose wires and all. I'm surprised I didn't fry my computer's PSU.
The hole in the front was from the original configuration that had a flashing red LED to let you know it was working. At 5V 1 flash was light vapor, 2 was STRONG vapor, 3 flashes was OMFG!!!!!, and 5 flashes was FZZZZZZZZT!!!! Alas, the LED broke on the way out and gave it's lead to the 14650 mod mentioned earlier...
Again, the pix are from a cell phone. I'll get the hang of the darn thing sooner or later, but I'm used to REAL cameras...
As for the person that once said, "I don't want something made in someone's basement.", both of these mods were built on my basement bench...
This is identical (except for color...I used the cool Blue light) as the 12V Atty Smasher I plug into my car's ciggy lighter.

| Love it.
Priceless,
I know a couple people that have had bad experiences at their job, like losing a finger, cutting off the steel toe portion of a boot (yes his foot was in it, and they found it, and put most of it back on).
A real man losses body parts working on hobby projects in his basement.
This is addictive isn't it?

It is, but I have an agenda here, and then I will probably stop (unless someone wants to make it worth my while to continue...)
I have pretty much decided the 510 is my cig of choice, for now, and I want to make something with a TI PTN04050 3.2-5v battery booster, something that looks really good with enough room for the circuit, and another mega-battery mod that also looks really cool.
After that, it's money time!
Oh, and an atty that even *I* can't kill!

| Sellers ought to be sending you attys to kill with the hope you can't kill it. FREE TESTING SERVICE
Lets see, we have a public affairs officer, a juice cop, the fashion cop, a bling groupie or two, experts out the arse, and now Indiana Jones in search of the holy grail of atomizers.
Did I forget anyone?
Oh yeah, vaporpimps, enough to keep the experts in check
If any seller is brave enough to send Hachi a Gratis atty that he can't kill, you stand to make a fortune.
He will in addition to giving you the best free publicity you can find, will provide the ultimate power source.
New difinition: Vapor Heaven
Selling the best e-cig product at the best prices with a life time guarantee and all the money going into an offshore Cayman account.
Money for nothin, and the vaping is free.

And, LeCig, in one of his early messages offered a couple attys to someone for long-term testing, so he sent me a couple. I killed one 808 atty already, now working on #2, and still haven't made a dent in the first Cartomizer. I have it on a pass0thru connected to the ciggy lighter in the van through a ciggy lighter USB adapter, and it's still puffing away.
And. Vapor Heaven seems to have gone bye-bye, or is that what you were referring to...?

| which model 808 did you kill?
and by cartomizer that is still going is that a blu or green?
I'm having pretty good luck now with the 808D-1, by keeping it wet it doesn't seem to scorch. And being really careful with the needle not to disturb the heater.
Keep us up to date on anything that survives your testing.
Would be interesting, and valuable to others here, you know , with your experience in atty testing.

Which one is surviving? | The 808 was, I think, a "B" model, not a cartomizer. I was vaping the heck out of it, getting it really hot. It lasted about 11 days. That was on the original 5V 20A Atty Smasher. I have another one to use with the current limited Atyy Smasher, I just started using it today.
The other one is a Cartomizer, not sure which model. I have been using that for about 2 weeks, but it's in the van and that's the car I drive the least. It's attached through the 12V-5V USB adapter that killed a 510 on me.
So far, I like the 510 the best, since it's most like smoking a real cig. If I can just keep froom killing the attys...
Oh, I had a 901 drop dead after about 8 days, using it on the pass-thru for the Cartomizers. I'm on my second one now. I don't like it as much as a 510; nice vapor, but I thik it's a weak hit and so-so flavor. The 808 and the Cartomizer blow the 510 and the 901 away on taste. You can really taste what you're vaping with those. I think the Cartomizer has kind of a funny flavor, though, like lilac water or something. It's..uh../different/!
