| With all this ice and snow, I decided it's time to FINALLY take a look at the rear window defroster in the Mazda Babe Magnet. I opened it up and....it has a 'timer' circuit on it. I knew that, I just didn't know how it worked. I found two pics of the circuit. One from the real Mazda wiring manual and the other on some web site from a '92.
Looking at the circuit, it looks like all it's doing when you press the switch is starting the timer circuit (set for 15 minutes) and then switching Ground to the relay. I hope. It didn't work when I got the car, but I found by yanking the switch out and holding it a certain way it would work, but now that's done, too. So I want to try wiring a switch up to it and see if I can make it work again. I think I know what I'm doing...I hope...

| I guessed correctly. I took a piece of wire, went from the BLK to the BLK/BLU wire, the relay clicked and the window started defrosting. Now I just gotta come up with a switch to wire in there.

None of my other cars ever had a timer on them. The only thing is, since the switch operates on Ground instead of 12V, I might not be able to put in an illuminated switch. I could always put an LED somewhere, or use the ABS light in the instrument panel, since I don't have ABS on this car.

| Now here's a couple of interesting things. This is the diagram for the instrument panel:
First, over to the left, is the location of the REGURETOR. This is a 1989 car! You'd think by then they would have gotten over Japlish! On the right is an interesting circuit tied into the speed sensor. In Japan all cars are regureted by law to cut the fuel at 180kmH (115MPH). This diagram shows this circuit. Most Japanese manufacturers disable this feature for the US, so it would be interesting to know if it is enabled in this car. I can tell you, after 22 years I am not going to be the one to find out. And, I know for a FACT that neither my Hachiroku or my Scion have this feature enabled!
