I'm so excited. I can't wait to get mine. Question though for W9 and/or the others who are already using it.... will it take the IMR 18650's in both button top and flat top?

I think this was discussed once before but heres my take..
with the head arrangement it should work fine but you dont want to over tighten the spring in the process as it is a hot spring
IMR's could be important in dual head configurations that draw high amperage but as the unit is rated to 5 amps the CGR/CH batts should be able to meet the needs kept within those parameters

Ok explain to me the hit spring cause I tightened it up so it didn't feel so loose. Then I just re loosened according to directions afraid I didn't want to screw anything up.Is it just another type of protection? The battery gets warm and the spring extracts more?

Ah, ok thats kinda what I thought. Yeah as W9 said earlier oil needs more heat than e-juice.

Guess for Persei disscousions, we should start our posts "oil" or "juice"

Sorry that wasnt clear..if stacking flat top batts people were compressing the spring too far which eliminates the collapsing of the hot spring in the event of a short...might operate but you've handicapped a saftey feature in the process and are putting additional forces on the unit..as far as single batt 18650 it should work ok...hope that makes more sense..
you should keep in mind with the type battery your using what its discharge capabilities are and make sure your not exceeding them

18650, single batts are fine in flat top. Now for stacking rcr123as or 18350s you will want niptips for the batt to batt connection.

The 18350 flat-top IMR's that were offered in the LT Co-Op will stack.

My4jewels confirmed it herself.

Cool might be the type that some call "semi tip" kindof between flat and full nip.

Was just going by what W9, the maker, sugested. That to make batt-to-batt with "most" flattops required over tightening of spring witch would kill "hot spring" safty feature.

Again boils down to my gripe of lack of standards on these things. Suposedly there are flat and niptip batts. However looking at diff batts I've seen a lot of odd ones, like a "flat top" that looked like a wide niptip, and a "niptip" that appeared to be a flattop with a blob of sodder in middle of +side. Grrr.

I shudder to say this. But as far as battery standards go, I wouldn't mind a lil gov intervention here. UL labs perhaps would be great.
