I tried running 3DSM9 without installing service pack 2... which is essential to run it on Vista. Not really Vista's fault. I was laughing when I saw the Mohave commercials, too. I thought it was funny, all of these folks that "hated" Vista thought Mohave was so awesome. lol

Made it easy to have the outside screens at a true 45 degree angle. It does take up some desk space as the screens from edge to edge is about 50".

Dual Core e5200 wolfdale OC @ 3.3ish, air cooled,
ati 4850 card, | You have my sympathy.
I used to be a diehard ATi fan, until I loaded a Linux version. FIVE DAYS to get acceleration going! Then, any little bump in the system, and your xorg.conf file got reconfigured. I got loading the drivers down to under 2 hours...
Even on Windows the ATi drivers gave me heartburn! Have gone to nVidia, until ATi smartens up again...

| Gigiabyte MoBo, 3.4G Prescott running a 3.97, 6G RAM. PCLinuxOS running a server kernel to get all 6 gigs on a 32 bit OS. Also, XP, W7, and right now massaging a Sabayon Linux installation.
Took me 35 minutes to get the nVidia drivers installed and the sreen to the right resolution (1792x1344...I like screen real estate) on a 22" NEC CRT.

W7 is ALMOST enough to make me go back to Windows. | Vista Premium makes my desktop clean. All of my game-related icons are in a hide-away folder bar on the left and all of my non-game-related icons are in a hide-away folder bar on the right. Start bar is on auto-hide and Rainlendar keeps my calendar, date, time, et cetera watermarked into my desktop. It runs great, looks great, and it allows lazy PC geeks like me get by just fine.
Hell, one of the best things I got for Vista was the full 2011 (or maybe it's 2010) Office Suite. I got it for like $10 through my previous employer. Ah, the perks were nice.

I remember I saw a gorgeous monitor at Fry's Electronics on clearance one day. It was some really bizarre resolution. I think it was 16:7.5 or something strange like that.

| Sorry to interrupt. Ya'll are speaking English....right?
Can a pitifully inept website owner ask you guys a question? Any opinions on Homestead Storefront or Yahoo Sitebuilder? I have websites on both, and Intuit would really like me to pay them a grand to make mine really pretty. Can't afford it! Yahoo is very basic (or I don't know how to use all the options possibly) but straight-forward. Any suggestions for a user-friendly website builder and host?
Humble Thanks |

Humble Thanks | I remember a program I used several years ago called Trellix that was super-easy. I don't know about the cost, as I had never purchased anything, but it was cool for learning a bit about website structure.

Have gone to nVidia, until ATi smartens up again... | haha, yea...i tried getting the 4850 to work in ubuntu...what a headache, i ditched it. i like the idea of linux but i dont think it will ever be 'mainstream' on a desktop computer. netbooks, mobile devices sure...but windows isnt going anywhere. everything just 'works' and thats what people want. people clueless in computers will never be able to deal with broken dependencies, broken xorg configs...running things from a command line.
my card has been really easy to work with in windows. ati has eyefinity that sets the monitors up pretty painlessly. this setup is a little rigged though. center and right monitors are hooked into the dvi ports and the left monitor is plugged into the displayport using a 20 dollar passive VGA to displayport adapter. I know i was one of the firsts to do this on this card in eyefinity without having a native displayport monitor. Doing this cuts your costs quite a bit, DP monitors are expensive. Nothing is 'buggy' for me over here.
Like i said, i am a fan of linux...ive played with a bunch of different distros. Its just not efficient to run a business with, ive tried. I have to focus on making money...not dealing with longwinded problems i have to try to fix via command lines. Linux on the desktop is more of a 'hobby' OS in my opinion. |
