Hey. I don't know anything about the module that's providing the Latest Posts sidebar, but it has lost it's mind... err, database. Sometimes it's correct, other times it is putting up ancient threads, which haven't had any new activity.

Could it be, it's counting threads that people just view as having new posts? I have no idea, I'm grasping here. Since computers only do what we tell them, and such...
