| I just got my new Penelope RBA. I watched Scott Bonner's videos on both the Ody and the Penelope (for about the fifth time each), and rolled my first coil ... beginner's luck, it came out a perfect 3 Ohms. I've been vaping away with it on one of my eGo Twists, and as expected, the first half-hour has been a bit rough, with quite harsh hits (I tried the first hit @ 4.8V, which, with a 3 Ohm load, should yield about 7.6 watts; durn near blew the back of my head off!) ...
It's starting to mellow out, but I'm still getting a very strong soapy/perfume-y taste ... in Scott's Ody video, he demonstrates how to burn off the ceramic in a blue flame on a gas stove. Could the ceramic on the Penelope be causing the soapy taste? Would it benefit from the burning-off procedure Scott showed? If so, what can one use besides a gas stove (mine's electric)? Do I need to get one of those chef's brulee torches, or what?

Certain kinds of VG (the kind used in soap-making) will give you a strong soapy taste when vaped.

| You know what, I faintly remember watching the video you're talking about and THAT is your problem!
You need to burn that ceramic otherwise you'll get that soapy taste forever.

Do I have to buy a chef's brulee torch like Scott uses to carbonize his SS wicks?

| "BBQ Camping Soldering Tool" ... LOL
Over the past couple of hours, the soapy taste has moderated considerably, but it's still there. I'll finish this tankful and if it's still there, I think I'll just visit one of my friends who has a gas stove ...

| No more soap! Burned off the ceramic; problem solved. Rolled a 2.1 Ohm coil, filled it up with Flue Cured, set the volts @ 4.1 and Hey, Presto! a beautiful vape! Very clean flavor ... in fact, I'm tasting little notes in Flue Cured that I totally missed before.
Now, if my Kir Fanis clear tanks for the Penny would just arrive from Greece, I'd be golden! Maybe Monday ...

| YAY! So now that it's not soapy, is it a "dirty Penelope" ???
Sorry (well not really ) but every time I see the title to this thread it reminds me of an intro for a Girls Gone Wild type of thing
