PREPARING FOR THE PANDEMIC WITH eCIG VAPOR?

I have seen this topic discussed at length on other eCig forums so it is high time to discuss it here on VapeAtron, omfg its the future which might include a pandemic! lol

If at first you think it sounds preposterous that propylene glycol can be used as a preventive measure for the new designer flu due to hit in the fall of 09 (according to Homeland Suckurity), I assure you in all seriousness, propylene glycol was proven way back in the 30's to kill germs and viruses and it is still used today in medical nebulizers and hand sanitizers.

Now whether you believe this impending flu is naturally occuring or engineered in a gov laboratory and sprayed on the populace via chemtrails, Researchers found propylene glycol was a potent germicide in the 30's.

From a TIMES article way back in the day, "A powerful preventive against pneumonia, influenza and other respiratory diseases may be promised by a brilliant series of experiments conducted during the last three years at the University of Chicago's Billings Hospital. Dr. Oswald Hope Robertson last week was making final tests with a new germicidal vapor— propylene glycol—to sterilize air. If the results so far obtained are confirmed, one of the age-old searches of man will finally achieve its goal."

Complete TIME article:

Air Germicide - TIME

I posted this article here (I'm amazed it's online) so you can see for yourself and so you'll know I'm not trippin....

Given this application in possibly preventing flu, just look at the potential for vaping that may be every bit as important as helping smokers switch to vaping to save themselves, people, animals and the planet. Vaping could also help non-smokers avoid the flu, they would just vape a no-nic cart.

This may not be all about Big Tobacco that the FDA is threatening to clamp down on eCigs. The planned flu vaccine could bring in billions for Big Pharma, think about it.

So what can we do about it? Maybe nothing, maybe everything. Getting topics to go viral ("viral", now there's an irony for you) on the Internet (think forums, communities, twitter, etc) may be one route to go....or we can just lay down, do nothing, while the people drop like flies around us.....
I'm just sayin....be aware of your options before the fact, not after, that's just stooopid.

What are your thoughts?

Are digital cigarettes susceptible to a virus, like through the power cord, or USB? I'll check with our IT department, "I think I have a worm in my digital cigarette".

Breaky,
thought provoking. What, you don't trust our government, big money, the FDA.
I do (they are watching).
Inhaled smoke from anologs had all kind of stuff in it. Including CO which reduced the uptake of O2 in to the bloodstream. I agree that other than the NIC in our juice and the FDC yellow #5, that what we are vaping is much better health wise (unsubstantiated by long term study of course). The healthier your lungs are when an intruder slips in the better off you will be. PG has medicinal value? That's asking for the FDA to step in. Just kidding of course, But you have some very provocative concepts deep in your subconscious, I can relate.

Has anyone here read the book by Stephen King, The Stand? Or seen the TV mini series/movie?

The Stand was set in the future where 99% of the population was killed off by a designer engineered flu of several viruses. Many times writers, usually science fiction writers accurately predict the future. Another thing science fiction writers predicted years ago was that tobacco cigarettes would be replaced by electronic cigarettes.

Both these predictions are now upon us, the future is here and how we deal with it is up to us.

As for me and mine we will be vaping. We have laid in a supply already because we know the FDA and Big Pharma are in all probability going to shut down the freedom to vape eCigs. Big Pharma is going to make a killing (pun intended) off this designer flu and vaccine.

Even those that don't need nicotine can still vape/inhale the propylene glycol with 0mg, no nicotine, just propylene glycol in the flavor of their choice.

Think of it as a vaporizer used for colds and congestion or a medical nebulizer used to deliver meds but just a lot easier to use.

At any rate, thats my choice folks, in how I plan to deal with the coming pandemic. Some believe the pandemic is much ado about nothing while others say people are going to start dropping like flies. Whichever the case, no harm no foul, I'm going to be ready.

Rocketman, Nah, eCigs don't have to be marketed as having medicinal value. We already know the FDA made a pre-emptive strike about marketing eCigs as smoking cessation devices so not much point in marketing any other truth about eCigs benefits. Nope, this would have to be "under the table" marketing so to speak. lol
And ya know what, though I'm all about marketing to promote a brand, I'm also all about creating a buzz to promote a concept, especially one that could have a profound impact on humanity.

In case anybody visits here that doesn't have a clue about why we are discussing propylene glycol as a possible flu virus killer.....PG is an ingredient of the vapor in electronic cigarettes (eCig). It's also a food additive approved by the FDA to keep products from going bad on the shelf as well as in medical nebulizers (for the lungs) and hand sanitizer gels.

I read the stand three times I think and watched the movie at least that many times. I also watched star trek when Cptn Kirk would take something out of his pocket, flip it open and say "beam me up scotty" kinda like the flip phone of today. So much science fiction isn't fiction anymore and I believe a lot of things of today come from sci fi. I don't believe in conspiricy theories though because they are't theories, they are REAL. I agree with Rocketman 100% when he uses his pet saying..."they are watching us"....THEY ARE WATCHING US!!! My signifant other doesen't even smoke but I'm going to give her a 0-nic-PV because she has had a kidney transplant and can use a little extra help in preventing flus and other things the gov is planning on giving us. Look on the bright side, at least when they are designing flus to give the population they are using our tax $'s on us. The Stand is a long movie, I think thats what I'll do this afternoon. Two fully loaded 510's should get me through the movie just fine.

my favorite is "Road Warrior" Bring it on Big Pharma I'm ready.
PG and NIC in the fridge, salt in the shed, and NATO ammo (can always find NATO ammo). Mosquitoes don't like PG vapor.
Pop Tarts, stock up on Pop Tarts, lasts for 40 years. Free flowing well, city water won't get me.

OK Question for the chem/med/law students out there.
Can you put up Jars of Jam, Pickles, NIC juice, and store them for years?
IF the DEA/FDA Swat Team busted down your door and you were "canning" NIC juice, could you explain vacuum packed liters of NIC juice?
Veterinarian antibiotics, we'll take care of ourselves, bring it ON.

I hate to be negative, but PG vapor may not be the panacea we are hoping for.
It is possible that PG is a antibacterial agent, actually "killing" bacteria. The study conducted in the 30's used expert deductions to determine that the 0.5ppm PG aerosol killed bacteria in seconds, and that the alternative hypothesis would take 200 hours to accomplish the same thing. Aerosols are much faster than that, air fresheners work as aerosol suspensions that employ dispersion and gravity to clean the air of odors and even recent claims of disinfecting properties. The ability to analyze "germ killing" in seconds in the 30's is a little far fetched.
Now just suppose that PG aerosols can clear the air of germs and bacteria (what about viruses?) in seconds, air replacement (we need that every so often) would necessitate retreatment every few seconds. (unless we turn off the AC) The effect only lasts a short period of time, whatever the mechanism.
But we aren't really vaping the air around us (well I am disinfecting my keyboard at the moment) we are vaping this stuff into our 'LUNGS'. Are we killing all kinds of bacteria and germs in our warm moist lungs? That may not be a good thing to do since there is a natural flora of bacteria in our lungs that do good things. They keep us from developing fungal infections. People with depressed immune illnesses have a problem when they take large doses of antibiotics, it kills the natural flora (bacteria) that 'eat' fungal intruders. Are we vaping to death the beneficial bacteria in our lungs? I don't think so, I hope not. Anecdotal examples of PG being used as a treatment for lung diseases, COPD, or asthma may be misleading. Nebulizers distributing albuterol are more efficient (particle size, bronchial penetration) when PG/water is used as the motive medium. It's the carrier not the medicine. Does it HELP, yes probably. Some references claim PG is a respiratory irritant, but then it's used as a carrier for respiratory drugs, come on folks, make up your minds, bad for us - good for us, can't have it both ways. Another use of PG is the gelation/carrier for alcohol based hand sanitizers (that's sort of self explanatory). I personally get a little sort throat from PG e-juice. 50/50 PG/VG helps. Still better than the strong axx cigars I was smoking.
1930's medical experiments? Things movies are made of.
Government conspiracy to intentionally distribute a new virus to benefit Big Pharma, and help stimulate the economy? Maybe. Things movies are made of.
My guess is they ignored, didn't act in time (intentionally) and decided to let nature take it's course with the same result.
Again, I apologize, for coming across so negative, but there are still two sides to this story. We think we are better off with digital cigarettes over analogs, I do. Will this improve our general health? Yes, for those of us that were being hurt by tobacco smoking (George Burns just might be alive today if he e-smoked). Heart disease and lung cancer rates will decrease as the number of e-smokers increase. The economy will continue to weaken for a while. Our government will continue to lie to us. Some of us WILL survive all of this. (Be sure and watch Asteroid on TV tomorrow night).

Wow that was a long post.

Rocket,

With respect to secret sign: It has to be something "THEY" can't pick up on. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to develop a 'whistle' using only 'Smileys' just can't seem to get it to work.
The other idea is a 'Captain Midnight Secret Decoder Ring'. They are sometimes available on ebay. The CIA tried for years to break the 'code' and failed. This would be the ideal way to send information back and forth without anyone catching on. Worked for me many years ago.

In reference to the TIMES article on PG in the 30's, we could, when introducing the Pandemic issue, give the secret sign like the CIA did in a spy movie "Company Business" with Gene Hackman: When Gene called a contact he would introduce himself by saying,
"I want you to renew your subscription to TIME". Probably a play on telemarketing intros but it would be quite fitting for us when we're doing "clandestine operations" on PG. As to a complete code, I'll leave that to you. "They" would already know Morris Code, I should think, but maybe not....lol
Hell I don't even know Morris Code but my SO does. ;-)

This is certainly some very interesting information. Though I do wonder like Rocketman, what this may be doing to the "good bacteria" already in our lungs. It would be nice to know exactly what sort of germs, viruses or whatever this is killing. Are the bacteria in our lungs that do the good things for us actually bacteria? or are they some other form of substance such as proteins or something else that does the good stuff for us?

I was watching this show just the other day on the Discovery channel and it was talking about all the bacteria in the Comodo dragons mouth (which is known to cause infections in its prey which usually kills them in short time so the comodo dragon can eat them). Several guys wrestled one to the ground so they could take a swab of its mouth to see what germs were in it. The guy also took a swab of his mouth so he could compare the two.

Anyway, conclusion came that both the swabs had bacteria on them that promoted the growth of a virus. The human swab had E-coli in it among other things. So are these so called good bacteria in our lungs actually bacteria or something else altogether? I know the swab was not from the lungs, but it all leads to the same place basically. Last time I checked, E-coli was not good for anyone.

Anyway, just a little more food for thought on the subject. Interesting none the less to think we could be vaping away the flu!

Very thought provoking and while this thread is all about PG and it's possible effects it is also about the government and big pharma companies trying to get their piece of the pie. Government will argue that this is dangerous and no doubtedly cite many statistics where people were stupid and did not follow the original intents of this item and it's accessories or did not teach their kids not to reach or play with stuff that they have no clue about or simply put it up out of the reach of kids.

Crazy idiots ruin it for all of us.

Agree - Lowest common denominator effect. One moron with a lawyer is all it takes for the rest of us having to read 8 pages of warning labels on our lawn mowers. Do not put hands in blade area while running. No Really!????

On the other hand lawn jarts seemed like a good idea at the time

Exactly! We are, in fact, talking about PG juice and the safety of the e-cig in general. Both of my girls (18 and 20) smoke. I would much rather them smoke the unknown at this point than to smoke the known poisonous cigarettes! And back to The Stand. (I don't mean to get religious), but aren't we all suppose to be following a great world leader one day? Hence the devil disguised as a rock star!!! Great book!! I have seen the movie too. One of few I have watched.
