| I LOVE me a "handy-man". I could NOT live with a man that has hands softer than mine! I like to whine a little and then see appliances or other household problems fixed. It's like getting a present! |

| We had a fire in 2000 and had to have all the plumbing replaced. The insurance company paid a plumber to come in and do it to my spec, which was all copper, 1/2" lines, cut-offs on every appliance. I get there after the plumber is done and he has put in 1/4" PVC without a single cut-off in the whole house. The guy has vanished too, got his check from the insurance and no longer has a working phone. So I redid the whole house myself, all copper, 1/2", cut-offs on every appliance. Once a month or so I will go down to the basement and polish the pipes because they are just so darn pretty. Wife was complaining about the low flow toilet taking two or three flushes every time you use it, I showed her how you can adjust the float higher so you get more in the tank and it flushes better.
We are on the city water teat, but I have a pump in my front yard, the old hand-crank kind, I don't know how far down it's drilled as it was put in sometime before 1860, but it still delivers water. Does anyone know how I can hook this to my house and quit paying the city?

| Hi, Rez!
Of course, I don't know how to help you, but just wanted to add a comment. We have well water. The only draw-back is when our electricity fails, we don't have water. We were going to get a well at my daughter's house. They drilled 200 feet and found nothing. We were forced to get her connected to the community water supply. |

| Its a bit complicated Rez...first off you need a casing thats deep enough and big enough to drop a well pump into along with big enough line to service your house...then you need to verify the flow rate and recovery of the well..If not up to snuff per code then you will be drilling again...not to mention the rest of the assembly necessary like pressure tank, booster pump, expansion tank...etc.. plus now your paying the electric company to run your water....all assuming the water is OK without filtration and or softening...
yea...terrible deal having to pay for it aint it?..

| May be a "requirement" to be on city water. You can "supplement" your water consumption with a pre-existing well in many cases. Even though we live within the city limits, the city system doesn't run close to the property so our well can be used.
Since the hand pump draws water you are getting water from the local water table less than 35 foot below ground level (well could be 100 to 200 feet deep) have a sample tested. Might not be as pure as it was in 1860.

| Tastes pretty good, and it's clear, unlike the cloudy muck that comes out of the taps.
