| Anybody tell me the best way to use menthol crystals to increase the menthol kick in existing liquids?
should I use a little everclear and heat it up? Any ideas on how much crystals per liquid?
Any help appreciated..

| I've never used them in juice, but they may just dissolve in the PG. After all, PG is a solvent. I don't think you would want to use many. I'd start with one, try it, then add as necessary. You can always add, but never subtract menthol.

| I personally have not tried them.
I read this somewhere else:
"Start with just the tiniest piece for a 3ml bottle. You can either wait for it to dissolve on it's own, or you can gently heat the bottle by running it under hot tap water. "
"You want to use the tiniest, tiniest piece like the tip of the crystal. You do not need much at all. Start small you can always add more."
"Yes.....as the two previous members stated...use with haste..or you will end up with "Vicks"!"
Hope this helps answer your question.

| Since menthol hates water, you want to use a high purity ethanol (like, as you mentioned, Everclear 190). Heat will quicken the process of dissolving the crystals, but be careful doing this as you can super-saturate the solution and the menthol will recrystallize as it cools. PG can also be used, either alone or in combination with ethanol, but menthol is less soluble in PG. Oh, and glycerol and menthol don't always play nice. Those are pretty much the only solvents which would be used in the e-cig world.

| Im thinking microwave or dip a bottle into hot water...not a gas stove...but thanks for the warning
Is everclear typically available in drug stores or is that all denatured sheet?
Or is that a liquor store only thing?
After thinking about it I guess it should be an additive so stronger would be OK as I can add more juice without diluting flavors too much so maybe a 3ml bottle at a time would be OK if its a drop or two to premixed stuff?

| Hope I'm not too late:
Get the Everclear from liquor store (that's just a brand-name booze), and get the smallest possible bottle because it's too vile to drink (sometimes they even have the little airplane bottles). Fill a small bottle 1/2 full of finely crushed menthol crystals, and fill the rest with Everclear, but leave some airspace so you can shake it up. You can shake and wait, or use a hot water bath to speed things along. Microwave can be tricky with small amounts, after a few seconds it boils over. This mix is crazy-strong, start by adding just a few drops at a time.
You can crush the crystals in the baggie they came in using a big spoon (I used an ice-cream scoop) just put your thumb in the spoon "bowl" and roll the bottom of the spoon around on the baggie. It trashes the plastic baggie so have another one handy.
I've been meaning to try mixing some up to my preferred nic-level, so adding it to a liquid won't change it's current nic level. I'm just worried it will sit around half-empty so long... |

| Oh, and a couple other things: I tried making a funnel for transferring the crystals out of a paper chopsticks wrapper (no), and a regular piece of paper (I'm too clumsy), and finally settled on just snipping a small (small!) piece of the corner off the plastic baggie and working it into the bottle with my finger. I got menthol powder all over the place, but what the heck, it isn't gold dust or Bolivian something-or-other. A little goes a long, long way. Prolly be easier to make in a wide-mouth container and then transfer to a small dropper bottle after it's dissolved.
When you're done your nose will be overloaded by menthol, so probably not a good time to do experimental mixing/tasting (?).
I've read you can do 3/4 powder then fill with Everclear but haven't tried it.
If I think of anything else I'll post it. |

| NO WONDER I was knocked out for three days! And, it's not too vile to drink; I had NO PROBLEM drinking it at all! Quote:

| Cool! It's so easy (and cheap), I wonder why more people don't try it. I wonder what took me so long to try it! |

| I dont know why either
Ive been resistant to get into mixing really...to busy messing around with learning other stuff I guess. Mixing your own flavors seems like way to much BS up front but Im starting to see that it might be the best way to go for taste and cost...
Let me finish those mods first though...LOL

| Hello all,
My first post on this great site. I had to chime in here. All this talk about how to use crystals, I have been using these and the drops for almost 2 years. I fill a 3 mil bottle with the flavor i want to mentholate and then drop in a couple crystals. It will do its thing in about 5 - 10 min. done. No heating, water, alcohol etc. It is simple. |
