| Wow, some of those comments at the bottom of the article are, ignorant at best...
But ya, I'd like to know what PV he was using. |

| Probably a dated article put together well after the event. Interviews did seem to be well prepared with e-cig literature and all
I bet it was the mod that was reported a while back. You know, the pipe bomb one.
another version of the report http://www.weartv.com/newsroom/top_s...id_20551.shtml
EDIT: may be a second incident from the earlier one.
Two in the past month or so.

But ya, I'd like to know what PV he was using. | I read posts from the friend who had helped Tom (victim) get the mod. I posted about it, but it was just hearsay, but I checked it out...
Funny thing is, I started in 2007 and ordered from this same site (The mod was bought from) when it was first starting up. I talked extensively with the owner (over the phone) and bought a few kits back then. He was very helpful, and very nice. I can't imagine what he's going through. The page was pulled, threads were locked... So I don't know.
I did talk to David at SuperT, and asked if he could put "Extra holes!" in my mod for safety... I asked if he could put some holes on the top side too- in case the battery swelled? He said, you wouldn't want a battery venting at your face, so the lowest while still functioning is the best. He assured me, there is enough space from my mod to vent out the holes on the bottom sides, even if it swells.
Keep Vapin'
Safely!!! |

| I can't believe THIS slanted article!- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...cks-teeth.html
WTF!
They are holding up a....
"A North Bay Fire District spokesman said that the battery blew up in his face, knocking out all of his teeth as well as part of his tongue.
and saying as a caption... Device: The battery in the cigarette ignited and firemen said the father-of-three was therefore essentially 'holding a bottle rocket in his mouth' (file picture)
Can we BAN THEM NOW?

| It's all rather short on details, isn't it? Could have been a poorly vented or unvented, unprotected homemade mod for all they know.

| ya know considering the number of other electronic devices using lion batts you'd think you'd hear waaaaay more blown off ears and faces stories from cell phones...

| But consider, how many people do you know manufacturing their own phones, versus the number of people you know manufacturing their own PV's?

| I haven't seen it . . . and I'd guess at least half of us who vape have made at least one mod. I have one I made, one Tek made for me, two commercial eGo's I dis-assembled and modified to make them draw better, modified cones, modified cartomizers . . . it just seems, anecdotally, that you are more likely to have a Li batt in a homemade or modified PV than in a homemade or modified phone. I'm a hacker, and I've wiped and loaded custom OS's on plenty of phones, never hacked the hardware.

| Are the batteries more likely to blowout when you first press the button or just any old time? I have a tendency to press the button before I stick that thing in my mouth. oh, I can just see the comments on that

Latest on the exploding e-cig in Florida.
Several CR123 type batteries and a charger were found.
They couldn't ID the model of the e-cig because they don't know models.
The one that blew and put a guy in the hospital in January
and this latest one were with tube mods.
EGo, and similar ones, in good mechanical shape blow out the bottom plug.
Several reports of this happening, usually while on charge.
Teri: could be within the first few seconds after pressing button which still puts it right in your face.
People are still hyping the AW IMR vs the Ultrafire Big Red protected cell.
Which as far as I can tell (except for a triple stack flashlight explosion) have each had one explosive failure.
Time to look over your equipment.

(this page was down after the incident, but has been put back up) Now read that bottom REVIEW of it! SCARY~ Quote:
"December 3, 2011

OK I was a bit of a Noob when it came to vaping when I bought this thing. But on recommendations from out of country friends I bought this (6V version). The unit started acting strange right off the bat, it took me ordering carts from a compeditor to realize it was the carts AND atomizer that came with the unit that were bad. The atomizer actually caused the batteries to get VERY hot inside the unit, scared me half to death. Once I got the new carts from another company EVERYTHING CHANGED!!! Unit is now working AWESOME!!!!! I love it. The only complaint I have with the design itself is that sometimes it's a bit tough to unlock without unscrewing the battery cap, maybe in the future they will come up with a solve for this. Other then my initial problems, the unit is great and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND-just have your own cartos ready.
| So this is a pipe bomb, you screw it together, and stack batteries in it, and it came with Bad Attys!
3 strikes- you are OUT Prodigy V3!
(Hate to call it out like this, Steve's a nice guy, but hey... inquiring minds NEED to know this unit is unsafe!)

Nice guy or not, when a product starts blowing people's faces off, a revision of said product might be in order... I wonder if the victim's PV got hot as described above prior to exploding. You'd think he'd have noticed and stopped immediately... so much more about this story I'd like to know. |

And a couple people have already heeded that advice!

| Hmmm after reading this I'm starting to wonder why there hasn't been a passthrough hybrid made...a portable e-cig with a wire running to a hallow tube and a connector...giving you a nice "cig" fealing but still keaping the battery well away from the face...battery blowing up in my pocket "scary important stuff down there" battery blowing up in my face...."ummm I'll take the pocket loss" Personal preferences and all just wonderin how hard somethin like this would be...I use a passthru at the computer...it has a battery in it for some reason but i dont know why it needs the usb plugged in to work but it made me wonder why there isn't a more portable version of it out there...charge your battery and still vape from a wire...I know I'm add and again its late and I'm posting so this prolly wont make much sence to any reader but me currently "if it does congrats your mind is as messed up as mine"

| If a PT is plugged into a power supply kept in a purse or something, then size is less of an issue. A couple of bigger, safer chemistry batts with more electronics/safety features becomes more reasonable. Also, if the purse starts smoking, she can toss it like a satchel bomb.
