| There does seem to be a correlation between length of service and wicking speed. The darker and sweeter juices also greatly effect how quickly the poor performance point is reached.
I've found that once an atomiser has a slow wicking rate and requires a rest between vapes it can only be saved by thorough hot tap water cleaning, possibly alcohol soak(PGA or Vodka) and dry burning the coil.
I have been able to restore innumerable atties and CE2 cartos using these methods and the only casualties of the dry burn abuse have been four "burners":1-801,1-510,2-CE2s.
I have even successfully dry burned a "pillow stuffing" carto from which I'd removed the filler. The original 4081 atomiser which was my first vaper lasted 10 months "in rotation", as Rez recommends, and it failed in normal service not during a cleaning cycle.
On dry burning I only pulse it for 4sec. on so I don't get into the electronics duty cycle of the battery. When smoke from the atty ceases and sizzle is still present the incineration of coil crud is complete. There will actually be a fine ash covering the coil which you can observe if the coil is exposed. Rinse and recharge with juice and your vaping quality should be near "normal". YMMV
