| Here is a letter written by VaporX in response to the question:
"Are e cigs allowed in Canada as long as they're not sold with nicotine carts or liquids?"
(from the CVS discussion board on Facebook)
Electronic Cigarettes are not allowed in Canada. The reason why is Electronic Cigarettes are for quitting smoking. Anything that has to do with quitting smoking or just making you feel better in general, is classified as a health device. Any health device must be approved and registered, and at this time the FDA does not approve Electronic Cigarettes... yet. You also can not make or import e-liquid with nicotine in Canada with out a pharmaceutical licence. That being said, if you check out any major Canadian vendors online, you will see that most don't mention electronic cigarettes, but do sell Personal vaporizer (PV) kits; which are also nicknamed e-cigs. Also, the cartridges will probably come empty and the e-liquids may not contain nicotine. We all know that electronic cigarettes are WAY better for you than smoking tobacco cigarettes. We can all read the list of ingredients inside a bottle of e-liquid compared to the ingredients of commercial tobacco.
We all have basic science knowledge and understand the difference between inhaling hot smoke from combustion and inhaling a cool vapor from vaporizing. (blow the vapor from an e-cig on your hand, it is quite cool). It is the combustion of organic materials that create alot of the carcinogens that make smoking so bad for you.
Here in Canada, we are pretty much the 51st state of the USA when it comes to these kind of rules. I"m sure once the American FDA finally approves e-cigs for use, Canada will quickly follow suit. This is just a
matter of incentive too. There is only 12% tax on e-cigs and e-liquid in my province at this time. Compare that to the taxes that are on a pack of smokes. The government has always been influenced by old Oil, tobacco, and pharmaceutical money. And unfortunately, e-cigs steps on the toes of 2 of those industrys. I know a lot of people that used to spend about $250 per month on tobacco; that's $3000 per year. Some of these people only make about $30,000 per year. That's 10% of thier income going stait to tabacco companies and the government via taxes. It's the greatest pull the wool over your eyes, money making scam against the people since the catholic church. Plus, how many people have given up on the low succes rate of products from big pharm companys like phizer, such as nicotine patches, gums, and inhalers. Not to mention the prescription drugs sold as quit smoking aids.
The mandate of an orginazation like Health Canada or the FDA should be to look out for the best interest of the citizens, not keep their fat pockets lined with blood, oil, and tobacco money.
I'm sorry, did I go on a rant there. I hope that does answer you question though.
