| For those of you that enjoy receiving free stuff as much as I do...
I figured (1) thread for all of it would probably be best!
Granted, I won't be posting some of my super-secret freebies, but I'll be updating frequently with relevant links for the vaping community!
I think that everybody knows about Texas Instruments, soooo let's not even go there, K?
****************
NKK Samples: http://www.nkkswitches.com/default.aspx http://www.nkkswitches.com/samplerequest.aspx
And YES, there's conditions that come along with these expensive samples. The average vaper "may" only be able to get dime-store samples, like tactile switches, but the tech savvy will be able to get almost anything!
These, in particular, are VERY, VERY nice switches and will fit inside of a box mod: http://www.nkkswitches.com/series.aspx?stid=3&id=5019
All of their switches are high quality and excellent for mod building!
**************
Here's a coveted source for tantalum capacitors: http://www.avx.com/ https://www.avx.com/RequestSample.asp
I got all of my caps from here!!
And those of us that know, these little babies are EXPENSIVE!
*****************
This is one of my favorite places to go for wire samples: http://www.alphawire.com/en/default.aspx http://www.alphawire.com/en/OnlineTo...leRequest.aspx
They have a huge selection, top quality stuff and accept multiple requests.....no questions asked!
Got all of my wire for building mods from here.
*****************
Many of you already know about this one: http://www.petroextrusion.com/stocktubing.html http://www.petroextrusion.com/sample.html
Also an excellent sample source for the average vaper!
*****************
And this one: http://www.3m.com/market/industrial/...sleevings.html http://www.3m.com/market/industrial/...sc/sample.html
No "drama" comments please!
*****************
And here's one for just about everyone: http://www.component-force.co.uk/
Took about 6 weeks to arrive, but they have some excellent quality stuff! I had a special interest in their high temperature tape and heat shrink tubing.
But there are quite a few areas that should appeal to almost everyone.
******************
Will update every now and then with freebies or if anyone else decides to do the same?
And I don't think that I have to mention, but I will anyways. Please don't go bananas and ask for everything on the menu and request stuff that you don't need! Be smart and ask for small amounts of stuff that you'll actually use and you'll probably get it!
Please post your confirmed deliveries and let everyone know of your successes! And if you happened to have any negative comments just waiting to be released, please don't leave them in this thread! Send me a PM and vent all you wish.
Thanks! |

| Little extra help here....
Part numbers for AVX Tantalum Caps:
TAP107K010SCS
TAP107N016SCS
TAP107H006SCS
I have samples of all of these but I use the TAP107K010SCS most often (10V) when building mods.
If you order TAP107N016SCS (16V), they're quite a bit larger than the other two part numbers.
You may also receive a response via e-mail directly from AVX offering alternative part numbers as their stock fluctuates as to what's available for samples.
They'll have the same properties, just different PN's and probably different leads.
Anyways, thought I'd save ya some time and headaches looking through PDF's trying to figure out what's needed for TI regulators. |

| Now this next link will be an excellent source for those of you with more "skills & knowledge" than the average mod builder: http://www.te.com/components/default.aspx
So where the samples forum link?
You have to find what you need first and see if there's a sample availability: http://www.te.com/catalog/pn/en/5-14...7-0&s_cid=SAM4
I received (2) of these and I must say that they're quite large and virtually indestructible as the model I ordered (or rather received) has a large stainless steel plunger..."no cap", same diameter though!!
High quality, but just slightly too "tall" for a box mod. May be useful in a tube mod or something larger than a AA battery box.
Here's an area that I completely overlooked, which I'm sure many of you will find very useful: http://www.te.com/catalog/wire-cable...ML=10576,22530
Can never have too much of a good thing, ya know?
There's a lot of stuff in here that's out of my 'realm', but I'm sure that many of you will find something that you need? |

| Well this one isnt exactly 100% free but for only a buck including shipping you can get a sample pack of various fibre optics about 4" long of each one in plastic fiber which will work well from here: http://thefiberopticstore.com/FAQ/sample.htm
the plastic has a better bending radius
they include stranded and single element and have a great FAQ and how to set up on their site..

| Enclosures anyone? http://hammondmfg.com/
This was my particular area of interest: http://www.hammondmfg.com/dwg9.htm
PN's:
1551NBK
1551NGY
1551NTBU
I use these for building micro DM's (Digital Voltmeter). Be warned, its a TIGHT squeeze and they're veeeeery difficult to build!! Not for a novice builder.....
You MUST have a certain kind of LED DM for these tiny enclosures, otherwise you'll have to significantly modify the enclosure to get the DM to fit (Bad Idea). Some DM's won't fit at all, so very careful what you buy....
I built one recently with the micro Blue Translucent (1551NTBU) with a Blue LED DM that I sealed inside the enclosure. The enclosure significantly reduced the intensity of the DM's bright LED's and created a softer light tone.....creating a really nice DM attachment!
The separate DM is fully waterproof and completely sealed inside and out; its a perfect compliment for ANY mod for measuring your voltage on the fly!! PLUS, you won't find them for sale anywhere! Or at least not that I'm aware of?? They're a unique mod attachment....
The other colors that I ordered are not translucent and require modification via an LED cut-out to display the voltmeter's 7-segment LED's.
My next one will be a RED DM to produce a purple tinted display....should be pretty cool! FYI...this is a "secret" freebie, a confirmed source as always.
So those of you that are bargain hunters and are experienced enough in filling out sample request forms, 'should' be able to discover "the secret".....
Donchya just love a good mystery?

| Great links.. Got my 3M sleeving in today. Only about 2" long each but I stillo think that should make about 100 or more wicks. Yeah! Now just need a little Nichrome.

Be sure to keep posting your successes....and your failures, if any? Your opinion is also welcomed WW....
Yeah, I've been "working" the Kanthal manufacturers, trying to get some samples lined up but it would seem that my efforts have fallen on deaf eyes. (To be continued over seas)
And then I was interrupted by another project....metal foam!! Discovered sources for the metal foam material that Chinese atomizers ceramic cups are wrapped in. Have been researching a bit and working on securing a source for that material at the moment as well. |

That's because GREAT hack minds think alike, Steam!!
Its a very difficult part to acquire in a sample! I only know of a few people that successfully obtained it....
I didn't even get it on my application, but taught someone else "how" to get it and SHE acquired everything she wanted!!?? Can't believe some of the stuff she obtained from my tutorials.....and gave them ALL to me in the end!!
I learned a lot from that experience and many others about technical details that most people might overlook.....
Gonna post some details soon showing really valuable stuff and a few details on how to acquire the components....maybe? And I say maybe because I personally did not succeed, but others may succeed where I failed!
And just an FYI, in case anybody's discussing "ethics".
I owned a business for many years that's not directly related to mechanical engineering. I use that business name for most of my applications. However, since I only have public domain e-mail addresses attached to my business....I receive a lot of rejections!
Those of you that have a legitimate business OR if you're a student and possess private domain e-mail addresses are likely to succeed where I failed!! You don't have to lie to get sample components from manufacturers....and I certainly wouldn't condone the practice or encourage it. But if you choose to get a little creative in your applications, then more power to ya!!

| Here's another one I really wanted to get my hands on: http://www.fdk.com/ http://www.fdk.com/cyber-e/s_ddconv/s_dd_cv_dk.htm
PN's:
FPDK12TR8003PSV
FPDK12TR8004PSV
FPDK12TR8006PSV
I came very, very close to get my hands on these!!
All that I needed was a shipping confirmation, which I waited....and waited....and waited....but it never arrived.
These would have been exceptional!! |

| Aaaaaand for those of you that are just dying to get your hands on Murata chips: http://www.murata-ps.com/okami/?feature=dcdc
PN's of interest:
OKR-T/3-W12
OKR-T/6-W12
OKR-T/10-W12
Make SURE that you sign-up with a private domain address or you'll likely be turned down. Also, Murata has officially discontinued the OKR Series, so if they have factory inventory remaining, consider yourself extremely lucky to have obtained them!! They may just have a distributor send out their inventory to fill your sample request. |

| Vero-stripboard anyone? http://www.verodirect.com/
This was the board of interest: http://www.verodirect.com/products.asp?partno=01%2D0171
I chose the least expensive board I could find that met my needs and humbly ASKED for a sample....and got it! The board I requested is capable of carrying up to 4 amps. The veroboard is quite sturdy but can be easily snipped into 5X7 hole squares, the size needed for most 5-pin regulator circuits. |

The secret with Murata is several variables, mainly PRIVATE DOMAINS and commercial districts.
But that's all I'll say.... |

PN's (of my interest):
SBH321AS
SBH331AS
SBH421AS
SBH431-1AS
Ask nicely and you shouldn't have a problem acquiring at least (1) of each model....
I received (3) of each. |

| And of course, everyone will need a high quality trimmer/potentiometer, right? http://www.bitechnologies.com/ http://www.bitechnologies.com/SampleRqstContact.htm
PN's of interest:
62PR100KLF
62PR200LF
82PR100KLF
82PR200LF
Now, you may or may not like my selections, so you're welcome to choose your own. I picked these single turn trimmers for both single cell booster mods (100K ohm) and multiple cell step-down mods (200 ohm). Took 8 weeks for my parts to arrive, so if you're in a rush, don't order samples from here!! |

| And of course, you'll need resistors! http://www.vishay.com/products/ http://www.vishay.com/product?docid=...7______#sample
Now, I myself have not ordered samples from Vishay yet, as I have several other sources at my disposal. But I may decide later to use them for mosfet samples, LED's or maybe even a LCD touch display...?? But here's the links for you as you'll be needing components from here to complete your mod. |
