E-cigarettes spark debate
Fall River Herald News, USA - Deboarh Allard
Smeaton wasn't turning up her nose at the law by smoking in a public place, she was “vaping” on an electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette. A quick vapor that dissipated in seconds came off the metal tube when she puffed. There was no smoke or odor, ...

It was a good read both the article and the comments at least the bottom half of them. I can not stand how all the organizations insist on saying that ecigs are made to help quit smoking when they are not.

I'm sure e-cigs were made to make a buck, and smoking cessation was not even a thought. But, considering the number of people who talk about cutting their nicotine to 0mg, and many others who have quit vaping later on too ... what's wrong with the organizations claiming that e-cigs can help smokers quit?

Let's just face it...smoking analogs, or vaping is just not something non-smokers understand about or ever will.

Forgot about this thread ... but found the answer to my question and thought I might share.

If the manufactures (or even the retailers for that matter) made claims that e-cigs would help you quit smoking, then the FDA would be required to investigate their claims and manufactures would then be required to submit their products for FDA review and approval.

Of course, now that the FDA might be regulating them anyways, my hope is that they'll be advertised and marketed as an alternative way to quit smoking.

I now live in Iowa. A couple years ago the State raised cigarette taxes $1 per pack SUPPOSEDLY to get people to quit smoking. They later said 30% of smokers had quit - they "knew" this cuz cig sales in Iowa had dropped 30%. The next thing I hear about it on the news last January was "no 30% hadn't quit," instead they were buying from border states and online(the Pact Act ended that). The spokeswoman for the State wasn't concerned though she said because they could make up the lost tobacco taxes by raising the tax another dollar.

WTF?! Make up the lost tax dollars?! I thought they said the raise was to get people to QUIT smoking?!

I love NOT paying analog taxes anymore!
plus not contributing additional monies to this state makes me feel almost as good as not smoking.

New Hampshire. The state motto on the license plates is "Live Free Or Die*", no state sales tax.
