Ive read stories about them being allowed on, thru security, but different reports on people actually using them.

Generally it's been a "discreet or bathroom" situation on the actual plane, as the flight crew doesnt want to deal with explaining what it is to all the other passengers.

Anyone done this, or plan to?

I don't have the balls to try. I think the only way I would is if it were an overseas flight and I would be canned up for a large number of hours.

I've been reading that some folks had success by just holding the vapour in a few seconds longer. When they exhale, it's mostly evaporated and is basically invisible.

I would have to agree with Primus; don't have the balls Once e-smoking becomes the "norm" (and I do feel it will), it will be more acceptable. Remember when cell phones first came out? I felt really out of place talking to someone while at a store, or standing in line, but now there are so many people that do it, it's no longer awkward.

I can usually go 4 or 5 hours without a smoke (or longer, gulp), so smoking in a plane isn't a necessity for me as it would be if I were say stuck in an elevator for the same amount of time

However, my 901 is silver and it looks like a ball-point pen... so you could probably fake it as so and hold it in your mouth and take small puffs. Most people probably wouldn't even notice (cover the light of course)... probably be a lot easier to get away with if you are next to the window also.

I'm flying to Mexico in a couple months, and I'm going to attempt the "cover the light and hold it in" technique.

Ive done this many of times, but I kinda hide it so nobody sees the smoke. I mean come on, the last thing you want to do is scare a plane full of people if they see smoke you get my drift. Its kinda to risky at this time I think. I just would take puffs and blow the smoke down towards my feet lol...

Ya, I would have to agree with Puff... people seem to be a lot more uptight on planes these days.

I did read a blog somewhere where someone claimed to have used an ecig on a plane and not have to do it conspicuously. He claims that he waited until they were serving drinks and then he asked the stewardess if he could use his "smoking cessation" device. He explained how it worked and demoed it for her, but made sure to cover the light so that it didn't quite look like a real cig. All the while making sure everyone around him could hear the conversation. He says he got approval twice by using that technique, but he made sure not to make a lot of vapor.

I'm not real sure calling it a "smoking cessation" is the best idea; we all know where that can lead. However, if this story is true, it is only a matter of time before airlines are aware of e-cigs and this approach may not be needed any longer. Although, I read an article that the state of Minnesota banned ecigs in bars because it was too close to smoking. So, if this is the case, airlines might just ban them altogether instead of embrassing the technology. Very sad indeed.

EDIT: Looks like my assumption is already coming to realization
Quote from http://www.e-cig.org/2008/12/17/usin...n-an-airplane/

"After a little bit of research, we have discovered that there are currently three airlines who have added the electronic cigarettes to their lists of unacceptable devices on planes. They all basically state that because the electronic cigarette looks so much like a real cigarette, they are worried that others might think someone is actually smoking and either freak out or start smoking a real cigarette themselves."

SH*T!!!! Stupid f'ers. Pisses me off that they'd rather ban something than actually research it a bit more and actually inform people about it.

If these airlines were smart they would start *selling* these disposable eCigs on planes. Hell, they sell everything else on flights. This would be the smartest thing yet.
