Cigarettes Female Health Issues *TMI warning*

*TMI Warning* This post is about a mostly FEMALE health issue that only affects MALES if they had/have sex with a FEMALE... or with a MALE actually...

*Reason 2394 NOT to smoke cigarettes, therefore, reason 999 to switch to e-cigarettes/personal vaporizer...

So far as I can tell, since I quit smoking cigs and only use e-cigs, I have improved blood oxygen saturation levels and have body functions acting closer to normal and the way they're supposed to act and react. Long list, but approaching normal; my sinuses, breathing, heart rate, skin rejuvenation, etc. Most things I didn't realize were so ill-effected by smoking cigs because I did it for so long, starting in my formative years, that the malfunction, or less than perfect functioning, was normal to me.

Only now that I quit smoking cigs can I admit that cigs really do cause health problems but smoking cigs also STOPS your body from reacting normally to health problems, the way it usually does with a nonsmoker where health issues are resolved naturally.

I had a minor surgery yesterday ~ minor but majorly painful and a real PITA kinda literally and I feel certain that were I not a chronic smoker, it just wouldn't be an issue!

Background info: Pap tested out fine after the birth of my last child in 2000 ~ tested for everything under the sun ~ tested for all sorts of diseases and STDs because I was getting an IUD meant to last for 10 years ~ nothing abnormal.

Fast Forward 9 years when I FINALLY decide to go back to the Ob/Gyn in January 2010 ~ I know, WAY too long ~ but c'est la vie! Abnormal Pap! So then I have to get a special, more intrusive biopsy (colposcopy) ~ lovely ~ NOT!

So then that comes back and I have some funky cells (aka cervical dysplasia) and I need this LEEP procedure done... Yee-flippin-fluckin-Ha!

HPV Human papillomavirus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (You men should read this carefully too)
HPV is the cause for everything nowadays although in the 2 tests done on me, 1 came back inconclusive, the 2nd with none. Regardless of the source, I still had the funky cells and had to get that LEEP done!

(LEEP" stands for Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure. It is a way to test and treat abnormal cell growth on the surface tissue of the cervix. LEEP is prescribed after abnormal changes in the cervix are confirmed by Pap tests and colposcopy. Abnormal cell growth on the surface of the cervix is called cervical dysplasia. Though cervical dysplasia is not cancer, over time it can worsen and lead to cancer.)

So lovely to get stretched to damnation, get this LEEP and then get cauterized and rollerballed and burned ~NOT NOT NOT!!

Why do you tell us these creepy things, you ask!
Well, because by age 50, 80% of women have had HPV in their lifetime but their immune system gets rid of it, resolves it...

HPV Infection Facts ? National Vaccine Information Center
"The majority of women clear the HPV virus from their bodies naturally but women with risk factors, such as HIV infection, smoking...are at higher risk for chronic HPV infection."
The Ob/Gyn told me they used to think smoking just made it worse, but now they realize smoking makes it worse AND STOPS your body from handling it naturally, which in most cases your body would get rid of it completely!

Yes, just like those HIV infected people, if you smoke then the odds are you will not get rid of it! Then you get to go through the BS, uncomfortable, PITAarea shite crap I went through yesterday!

I'll reply here so your post will not cover the entire screen if someone opens this thread.

Just kidding of course.
Best wishes on recovery from your minor surgery, and for the your future health.
Try not to go so long between checkups.
In general I agree with your post even with all the TMI

The chemicals in tobacco smoke, and even 2nd hand smoke (to some degree please), can not be complementing our immune responses to everyday exposures. As we get older, and our resistance to some pathogens is decreased, smoking becomes more and more of an issue. Respiratory ailments come to mind first, but general immune and healing responses have long been known to be impacted by smoking. Even if you don't have or admit to symptoms at the present, one day you will. Get you and your loved ones away from cigarette smoke.

The biggest problem in regards to healing and immunity to pathogens is due to the fact that Nicotine is a vasoconstricter. This means that once nicotine enters your body, all of your blood vessels narrow slightly. This is why many smokers have high blood pressure. This also affects healing and immunity because reduced blood circulation reduces the nutrients brought to affected tissue like surgical wounds, but it also reduces the amount of white blood cells that can fight off infection. Think of your blood like highway commuters in a busy city like LA during rush hour. Then think of nicotine like road construction, narrowing or removing lanes from the highway. Same amount of commuters, fewer lanes, increased pressure (road rage lol).

This is all nicotine, not just smoking but vaping as well. But nicotine isn't all that dangerous, just a highly addictive stimulant with a vasoconstricting effect. What is worse about smoking is that not only are you reducing circulation in your body, you're compunding that by adding toxins and other free radicals that your body has to get rid of. Not to mention that it paralyzes the cilia in the lungs, making it harder to naturally remove foreign material by coughing (like tar or carbon). This is why once you're off the analogs and strictly vaping for a while, you start to cough up some tar and other nasty stuff. Your lungs are healing and returning to normal.

Sorry for the rambling but yes, smoking definitely hampers your body's ability to heal and stay healthy, that is fact.
