So here's the easiest, cheapest modification, with the best results Ive tried to date-
First of all, the Smoktech RBC- at first glance, looks like a cheap POS-but then, upon inspection- Its got 2 slightly larger airholes in the base (compared to Kangers one) and a gear-shaped rubber grommet around the base inside, allowing for better airflow-
Using a pair of tweezers, the silica wicks slide out real easy, leaving the coil intact, once you take the replacement wick apart-
Twist up a small piece of cotton ball into a thread and slide it back into the coil where you just removed the silica-put an equally small piece of cotton ball wick on top of that (where you removed the 2 tiny silica wicks) and
Voila!
Best performance Ive ever gotten from one of these things-nothing more than a cotton ball, tweezers and an ego twist-

Just did a quick search and found this this.

Is that like what yours is??
If so it looks like the same coil as the Protank. Hmmmm

Interesting. FWIW, just the other day I took one of my "a** cotton" tasting T2's and replaced the wick (same coil) with new, cheap wick from focalecig.. no cleaning or anything. Just tried it before I threw the T2 out. Perfect taste.

I used to think coils were as big a deal with taste as wicks, but not any more.

Quick Q here. Does it have to be "organic" cotton???

I have White Clowd 100% Pure Cotton (cotton balls) says great for babby, beauty, & home. Sooo wicking or no???

Not sure of the "handeling" practices but I'm thinking there's alott of "factory goop" getting trapped in our attyheads.

Now the Protank heads I get are tres-faboo for about 4 to 6 days. Then I pop off the airtube, toss the "flav wicks" (never had them hold togeather post extraction), dryburn, rinse, dryburn, replace "flave wicking" with a single chunk of regular 3mm scilica from PVS. Yup better than new for another 4 to 6 days.

Last one, the coil held up to 2 "refurbishments" and then on first dryburn pop and de glowing stopped. But still, lil easier to gew workin than a flooding tank carto .

I will have to try some of that cotton fiberglass wick, as well as just replacing the flavor wick.

I did just try a PT coil using a cotton ball for a wick, lots of vapor but had a burnt taste right off the bat. And yea, I pulled all the old wick out and did a dry burn and rinse and another dry burn just to be sure the coil was clean, and even primed the new cotton wick. Suppose it would work in a pinch and easy enough to do (had to pull the old wick out a strand at a time), just didn't taste very good.

Yeah, first time I used braided cotton, learned the hard way...

No dryburn cotton! Lol .

And yup, braided cotton wick in Kanger head, gets primed, couple of pulses ta check for even plume. Then an extre primer drop, reassemble.

This is what I've been reading that most people are using http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-deta...n?skuId=955492 Sterile USP rolled but then I've read about some using Q-tips.

I had some really GREAT wick material once. Gateway used to pack hard drives in it. Super absorabent, and yet it would release the juice quickly when the heat was applied! It was absolutely fantastic!

At the end of the second day I felt what felt like a lump in my throat. Have no Idea what it was, all I know is that two days after stopping use of the 'sponge' I went back to feeling normal. Well, as "normal" as I can feel, I guess...

Be careful what you all try for wicks...

Now there's some good advise.

I have been tempted to try some odd things myself, but better safe than sorry.

Now I think about it, it was the same kind of material they use for makeup sponges...

Well, you should probably be dead, or at the very least now have form of un-treatable cancer at this point. Could have also caused some brain tumors in the frontal lobe areas, which explains everything!! LoL

Ok, I know I shouldn't crack jokes like that, truth is we have no idea what the hell you were inhaling. Your body had a reaction which means it wasn't healthy, and could have become serious.

And that's a big part of why I am here, I want to learn what works and what doesn't so I don't do something that could cause me more problems than I already have.

I'm just glad your ok. (yucky, did I just say that)

Were you useing it for actual wick, or as a replacement for the "sponge" stuff in a 510 cartrage???

Ya know, those sledge-hammer blows to the front of my forehead started shortly after. And then, shortly after that, I signed up here...and stayed...

That was back in the days when people were using atties and trying to come up with some method to wick the juice easier. I loaded up about 5 cartridges with the stuuf, and like I said, it worked GREAT! Good thing I had an immediate reaction to it. And after typing that sentence, I wonder how many things we don't have an immediate reaction to.

Bingo!

I don't think I'd use it as a replacement wick, either...

Yeah, me too, with the added advantages that a Boge would generally last at least 10 days, didn't cost $8, and didn't fry itself 50 miles from home with no vape store to bee seen.

Yup, couple of months ago, got 2 1.8ohm 510 atties from iVape. They both ohm out at 1.5, get screaming hot after just a few vapes. But now I've got the IGO-W & my Bulldog RDAs for taste testing new juice.

I use the organic only so I know that its cotton and not some synthetic-it may be safe for babby, but not for my lungs!
AFAIK...all the bottom coil wick holders are essentially the same-Smoktech got the great (IMO) idea to open up those airholes for the cloud-chasers.
Ive been using my modded ST RBC all day and I have to say, Im impressed-It was pretty good without swapping out the silica but way better with the cotton ball wick-

Ok, I'm thinking with the 100%pure & the cottonplant logo there's no filler in mine. Might try it later.

Yeah- just make sure there's no polyester or nylon blend-100% pure, unbleached-boil it for about 15 min before using-

Well they are totally white, so may have been bleached at factory. Pretty shure no polly, 100% pure pluss the "cotton" logo tells me that.

Gonna be a while before I try it our though.

I have braided cotton wick, maybe I'll pop small chunks of each in tweezers burn them see if there's a diff in fumes, I'm pretty sure the braided cotton is pure (trust the vender), so if burnt cotton ball fluff smells too diff I'll skip it.
