What's a PGPV i hear you ask?

Well...here it is.

http://www.vapeatron.com/attachment....1&d=1306924279

Made from a cheap, ABS plastic 'personal grooming' tool, hence the PGPV (ok, ok...it's a nose hair trimmer!)

http://www.vapeatron.com/attachment....1&d=1306924279

Led lights on switch press...

http://www.vapeatron.com/attachment....1&d=1306924279

Size comparison with a AA battery.

This is a *very* rough first modding attempt. You seriously do NOT want to see the awful mess inside of this thing...i'm surprised it works at all to be honest.

It takes a 14500 battery perfectly, and has a tactile switch taken from a pcb i found in the shed. Fitted with a 510 batt connector, which i managed to bugger up by melting the inner insulation grommet when soldering...fixed it by wrapping a thin strip PTFE (plumber's thread tape) around the inner positive post and pushing it into place...i then filled the back end completely with superglue and left overnight to dry.

Made the mouthpiece from a 'twisty ball point pen', cut in half.

Want to have a pop at 'the copper' type mod next, if anyone has any pointers about an all mechanical design mod?

Cheers all.

Nice job. Looks like a battery operated screwdriver I have around here somewhere. I'm sure someone will be around to help direct you in the 'copper' mods. There are probably some old threads that could be of help.

NICE JOB! I was looking for a "Personal Groomer" to mod, but at $8+ I was a bit hesitant. Which model did you use? You can get a boatload of them from eBay that look good, but I am reluctant to buy from China.

I found it on Walmart.com. $9 isn't too bad.

I actually bought a Remington at Walgreen's for $7, but the darn thing works so good I USE it!

Thanks RY4,

I thought it looked a bit like the Screwdriver when i saw it on the shelf in ASDA too.

Since getting in to this modding lark, i find i'm walking around the house and shops looking for things that might be 'moddable'!

Without a lathe and the majority of tools (even a tap and die set) needed to turn out something like a properly machined and turned, sleek and solid mod such as a GG or infinity, i'm having to look for stuff that is already 90% 'there'.

Drives the wife bonkers around the shops! ;-)

Cheers.

Hi Steampunk, cheers!

Yep, it's the 'ES-808' model (almost sounds like an e-cig model number eh?), and was £1.99, which is about..what..$3.00 or so in US?

I've been thinking about stuff from China too, but the wait is putting me off...besides, i've no real tools to do a proper job, so i have to make use of what i find anyway..so scavenging objects and devices for parts that 'kinda match up' is what i'm left with really.

The 'copper' looks good to me, as it's components all more or less fit together without machining...so right up my alley. (Mrs Spikeychops isn't impressed with the looks of the copper, but i like it..in a 'mad max - esque' kind of way.

Looking at a 80 or 100mm '15mm pipe repair coupling' as the base for my copper (brass)..scoured the net yesterday looking for bits that would fit...cheapest prices and all that and have got a pretty good idea of what it's going to look like.

So, that's the next mod for me i think.

(I used the nose trimmers before modding too!)

Cheers for your reply.

LOL! Just wait till your strolling around in Home Depot or someplace similar. I just bought my son-in-law a tap and die set last Christmas. Good sets are not cheap.

No, tap and die sets are not cheap...tools are generally bloody expensive here in the UK anyway.

Did buy a cheapy set at a market a few years ago...tried using it once, and the taps used simply sheared off to bare metal!! Not exactly useful..(made from that butter metal i s'pose!)

Sometimes i can get lucky at a car boot sale (do you have those where you are?) with finding old tools for little cost..the old ones used to be made to last eh.

But improvisation is the order of the day most of the time.

Apart from feeling guilty for dragging my family around the shops looking for bit's and pieces...the one thing that drives me insane, is that the store detectives tend to swoop and swarm around me when i loiter in one place too long (and with my 'slow on the uptake brain, that's a lot!)!

Feel like i'm guilty, just standing there!

Cheers.
