This is my first venture into cartomizers. I watched the awesome video on how to fill one and read the posts. I too popped it on the battery thinking it was preloaded. They were free samples ( Yes free! 6 of them!) from Healthcabin.

Are they supposed to pop and crackle? Mine seems to do that alot. Will it burn it out if I don't top it off? I need an experienced carto-lovers input.

One or two short vapes on a dry one and it's dead. (burnt)
Whether it needs topping off or not, top it off.
The clear center path may get juice in it but a quick little puff through the wrong end clears that out. pop and crackle can happen when too dry or too wet. If new I doubt it's too wet.

Work the cap out of one (might have a soft cap, a glued in cap, a hard plastic cap, and a second clear washer inside) and look at the filler. Even filled ones usually can take a little extra juice.

I add a few different flavors to the large batches of juice I mix for the swamp lady and I, and have found that just a tiny bit the Loranns grape (purple color) will color a pint of e-juice. Was disappointed in that at first but it turns out to be easier to top off cartos when you see color. It doesn't seem to 'stain' and vapes out. One ml in a 450ml batch colors the juice so it really doesn't take much at all.

Top them off, and often.

For the really really tough ones I use the wire loop from a binder clip.

i think you'd better take the top off with a tweezer, then fill it because it will be better filled and you can see how much and where you've droped.

OOOOOOH!!! OOOOOOH!!!!

BTW, they do make a kind of popping sound occasionally; at least, mine have. I have both prefilled and blank ones, and the first hit or two result in a pop.

And, if you overfill one, you get a nice nic high from the juice getting on your tongue!

BTW, it sounds like the ones you have are the ones with a hard top and glued in. They are REALLY hard to get out and hard to get out in one piece. I take a small screwdriver like the ones used to repair glasses, go in a bit aiming it to the side and then try to pry the top off. I have been sucessful a couple times. Once I ruined the heater wire, and once I couldn't get it off! Filling with a syringe is OK, but I like to see how much juice I'm putting in.

If you get some of the soft-topped ones, like LeCig's or LiteCig's, when they burn out or gum up save the soft tops, so if you do get some hard tops you can replace them when (if) you finally get the top off.

There's a nasty joke in there somewhere, but I'll leave it alone...

I have a couple of shots in the how to refill a cartomizer thread somewhere that shows the inside filler pretty well.
Even if you have the glued in kind the binder clip can take it out. The wire comes out of the clip and is too strong to bend by hand. It should work. Just push it through the hole and pry. The clip that is about 3/4 is the one to use. I save a bunch of hard caps because they are easier to pick out with your fingernail) except when glued in of course) than the soft caps. Try again, worst that could happen is to mess up a carto.

I'll give it a shot. I didn't want to mess up my German made diamond cut tweezers on a freebie carto.

That was the GreenCig carto you found, don't ask don't tell applies here.

The ones I posted look more like yours, and not trying to get personal here.

Once you do a few it get easier. The glued in ones also leave a little glue in the edge of the carto. Mine had green glue, that just had to go, I don't vape green.

One thing I like about the cartomizers: they put out a HEAP of vapor.
One thing I don't like about cartomizers: they make any juice I put in them taste like corn syrup...

I can't get the hard plastic O-ring out of mine. I got mine from Diet Smokes and they must superglue that in or something. I tried the binderclip trick and it just hurt my hands, nothing came out.

Some are just a real pain to get out and when you do there is usually some residue or parts of the broken cap.

Here's a last resort method. Heat a small amount of water to boiling on the stove, let it STOP BOILING, then touch the cap end to the water (use an oven mitt) for about 10 to 15 seconds. Heating the glue will weaken it. Then use a tine of a dinner fork (not the GOOD set) and pop it out.
