I'm not talking about the effects of smoking analog smokes. Just the effect of nicotine itself. I tried to google it but most of the info was about cigarettes.

Good question! I've done a lot of digging in to this and here is what I know so far.

Nicotine is a addicting agent which keeps us hooked on smoking cigarettes which actually has over 3000 other poisonous agents to it.

There has been little research done with just nicotine, it has been as you noticed mostly with the whole cigarette. But there has been some studies done with chewing tobacco which may cause throat or mouth cancer. Again the studies are few.

One thing they do know about nicotine is that nicotine also suppresses insulin output from the pancreas, which means that smokers are always slightly hyperglycemic. In addition, nicotine indirectly causes a release of dopamine in the brain regions that control pleasure and motivation. This reaction is similar to that seen with other drugs of abuse-such as cocaine and heroin- and it is thought to underlie the pleasurable sensations experienced by many smokers. In contrast, nicotine can also exert a sedative effect, depending on the level of the smoker's nervous system arousal and the dose of nicotine taken.

For me nicotine acts like an 8-ball effect, referred to the mixture of cocaine and heroine. It is mostly a sedative for me but does provide a temporary "kick". But that's just me.

I've also read it thickens vascular veins which may or may not effect the heart. I have not found a lot written about this however, nor have I found any direct medical links between lung cancer and nicotine. At worse it may effect the heart but there simply has not been enough studies.

On a side note many over the counter drugs also have the same effects as mentioned above!

Finding a nicotine study not connected to cigarettes is next to impossible and I would love if any one can post any links to any.

According to my Dad's heart doctor, nicotine is like glue in the blood. So my guess is by-pass sugery in the future. I'm trying to totally wean off of nicotine and just vape flavorings. Not easily accomplished but getting there. Hope this helps.
