Great news!

Found this:

I am returning Senate Bill 400 without my signature.

While I support restricting access of electronic cigarettes to children under the age of 18, I
cannot sign a measure that also declares them a federally regulated drug when the matter is
currently being decided through pending litigation.

Items defined as “tobacco products” are legal for anyone over the age of 18. If adults want to
purchase and consume these products with an understanding of the associated health risks, they
should be able to do so unless and until federal law changes the legal status of these tobacco
products.

For this reason, I am unable to sign this bill.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Glad to see he didn't just mindlessly wander with the rest of the sheep...

It also seems that he is of the contention that we should have the choice; within the constraints of the law (whatever that ends up being).

Kudos to Arny! I'm writing a thank you right now.

I just finished sending an email to Arnold urging him to NOT ban the e-cig in my state of California and then signed on here to see the news that he vetoed the bill. Horray for his decision. If anyone else wants to voice they're thoughts on this matter to him you can also email him at
Ask Governor Schwarzenegger

After I had read about the news with the Governator I decided to write the Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, about e-cigs. I haven't received a reply, but I've got a feeling that my words are falling on deaf ears. Brewer is... well... not very well-received in our state. She's dramatically dropped funding to education, put into place barriers to abortion that are unconstitutional to AZ, and made flavored cigarettes (analog mind you) illegal to sell. She's under a lot of scrutiny and scorn. I'm hopeful, but I'm afraid that if a similar bill is launched toward the books in Arizona... we'll be stuck with tobacco.

Edit: I just read that her father had passed away from lung disease when she was eleven. Granted it was diagnosed from exposure to cleaning chemicals in his workplace, she may take kindly to folks that are trying to clean their lungs up. Not sure, but one can hope.
