Murray Laugesen is a public health researcher based out of New Zealand and has been doing studies on
E-Cigarettes,
E-Liquid and the effects of
E-Smoking for a while.
Stuff.co.nz has a short story on him which explains his position on
E-Cigarettes and why.
Among other things, in the article he says:
He told The Dominion Post his peer-reviewed paper would be published in April but he feared authorities in New Zealand were "developing a hardening attitude toward them" and would outlaw their use.
He said that, on a puff-per-puff basis, the strongest cartridge delivered about one-third the amount of nicotine delivered by a normal cigarette.
They were clear of cancer-causing gases and tar and were cheaper.
With all the negative or neutral press coverage floating around out there, it's good to see a media outlet actually talk to the one man/group that has actually done some testing on these things, instead of just saying they are "potentially dangerous" or "unproven".
So far, in all his tests, he's found no side-effects that lead him to believe the use of e-cigarettes is harmful. This does not mean that there aren't potentially negative things that could come of all this, for sure. But right now, the only studies have show good results. So the WHO and whoever else needs to get to testing.
