| Anyone else notice this?
I had purchased 5 atomizers from Eastmall. The inside of them looked perfect.
Now just bought 10 atomizers from Vermont Vapor and inside there is string (Wick?) sticking out and the arched part. The very floor of the inside of the atomizer has the grey stuff that covers the bridge of the atomizer all over it. Thinking I should send them back to Vermont Vapor.
The look like crap compared to what I got from Eastmall.

| Do they have a wide brass ring at the batt connection, or are they the same as your other attys?

| Just an FYI, as it's probably not relevant here.
Not to suggest one is better than the other as both have their supporters and detractors.
These are Joyetech attys...
These are clones...
The bottom ones are the ones that EastMall and Innovapor were touting as the "next" great atty. As I said, some people like, some don't.
Anyway EastMall posted somewhere that will not carry the clones anymore and are going/went back to the Factory Joyetech attys. |

| Sounds like you bought the original J510 attys, but got got the JSB 510 attys from Eastmall originally.
That wick you are seeing under the J510 atty bridge, I have identified as troll hair. At the outset this actually keeps the atty from getting that burnt taste. After a week or two you will find that the troll hair can not be cleaned, and adds to the demise of the atty unless you tweeze it out from under the bridge. At this point you will find the the atty burns hotter and produces more vapor. The lifespan of the atty at this point is unknown. Mine are about + 3 weeks troll hair removal.

| I started vaping the first week in June with a 501 (Yeti) starter kit from The Smoke Safe; the atty has only a sliver of a gold-tone band. I've been using the same atty this entire time and I think it just faded away today... it was still getting warm but I was getting very little vapor so tried the other atty and it worked great. For the 2 and a half months I've been using it, I haven't cleaned it or swapped it or given it any kind of break; just changed batts and carts and kept vaping. So tonight I put it aside (well, it might come back to life) and started on the other one that came with the kit. I ordered a pack of 5 new attys at some point from Totally Wicked and they have the wide gold band. I haven't tried one of those yet but wondered what the difference is. Lazarus, you mentioned that difference earlier so hopefully you can educate me a little. FYI, I haven't had an analog since I started vaping and can't imagine ever smoking one again. Also, I sent that great article by Dr. Whelan to everyone I know; thanks to those of you who recommended it. And thanks to the forum member couple who recommended Capella Flavor Drops. I'd already ordered some Luann flavorings but the Capella is really nice and easy to use because of the dropper bottle. |

| JSB 510 is a knockoff of the Joye 510. Some people like it better than the Joye. The Joye atty has a wick of hairy looking material (troll hair...under the bridge...nevermind) under the atty bridge. The JSB atty does not have that wick. The JSB atty is advertised to withstand 30,000 burns compared to the Joye 10,000 burns. The wick, I think, is supposed to keep the coil moist and help avoid the burnt taste you get when the cart runs dry. I tweese mine out because it seemed like it would not come clean no matter what I used (even diluted muriatic acid). I think the atty burns hotter now and produces more vapor, if that's possible on a 510. I am going to try the JSB attys with my next purchase because I am not a fan of Troll Hair.

| It's dark in my atty, I really don't want to look in there.
I have both types of 510s and until reading this thread didn't even know it.
I couldn't tell the difference. I think my troll was a brunet.
Just keep either one "wet".

| Just for future reference, is the JSB knock-off the wide gold band or the narrow gold band? I'm not going anywhere near that bridge. I've known a few trolls in my day (with and without hair) and I've learned to avoid them at all costs. |

| The knock off usually has the wide gold band, but it sounds like it is available with the thin band also.

| I noticed the "troll hair" in my attys as well. On my original ones I thought I had gotten cart material in it somehow. I tweezed it out. I've had one atty die after 7 weeks; vaping now on #2.
I recently ordered twenty black 510 attys from healthcabin; theirs are made by the trolls as well. All I have are the Joye type.
BTW - Firhill; nice images. Macro lens? Extension tubes? Ring light?

Rick | Hmm..those are BIG words for me...I'm not a camera guy.
I 'borrowed" them, courtesy of another poster (from the thread that discusses the 510 attys )on the "other" forum. |

Rocket | I'm still chuckling over that, every time I drip.
I have a primary 510 atty I use( I save the others in case one dies). I pulled out a bit of hair the first cleaning and have since cleared out what I missed. I used a bent paper clip to GENTLY push it out one side and then tweezed out the top. People jump out of planes all the time. I also have a 306A atty. that I removed the troll hair from on the first use. My first thought was it must be a mistake. Both of these attomizers have held up very well (eight weeks).. The 510 has been dropped many times and also overheated once as I laid on top of it while playing mechanic. |

| My innovapor has the knockoff atomizer, which is oversized so carts fall off
My atomizers including my copper 510 from healthcabin look like the joy. I use the 901 carts on my 510. |

Haven't had a chance to retry the atts after Firhill and Lazarus explained that there are 2 types of atts. I think I've mostly had the clones up until now and when I saw the inside of the atts I got from you I thought they were bad. Thanks for your speedy service.

If you scroll up you will see that what I had been using before were a different type of att. I wan't used to seeing all that stuff down there. Vermont Vapor is a very reputable company and I will continue to purchase from them.

I think the stuff is in most attys. Here's a crosslink to another entry I made. cartridges
