My atomizer deaths are becoming legandary, so here's a thread for atty killers! Or for those who have atomizers since All Time Began.
I am currently up to 6 dead attys in 6 weeks! Three 510's, one 901, one 084, one 808.
I think I'm setting a new record here. I also think I'm on my way to killing another.
I have a couple home-made mods, a 'wired' Trailer Park that plugs into the ciggy lighter, and runs at 4.2 volts, one that I'll call the Atty Smasher, that looks like Rocketman's legendary Trailer Park, but connects directly to my computer's PSU 5V supply, and runs 'wide open' (up to 20 amps). I have killed 2 attys with this interesting little device.
I had a BRAND NEW atty (maybe 3 uses) and went to fire it up and...nothing. So I hooked it to the Atty Smasher and held the button for 4 seconds. It now vapes like a bat out of helk...but is also usually the sign that it's about to give up...
So, that's it. Six so far, and two more in the works...

I've had to bury three 510 atts myself. All of which from using poly fill for my batting which ended up leaving a nasty plastic taste that was unbearable. Don't use poly fill for your batting. RIP attys.

Maybe that's the problem, Hachi, you're using the wrong filler in your carts.... what have you tried in there.... fiberglass? plastic scratcher pads? polyester hair nets soaked in lighter fluid? There's gotta be some reason for your ASS (atty slayer syndrome).

Use one strictly for dripping and compare the life of it to others. Usually dripping will always keep the atty wet enough, sometimes too wet. Just blow it out every couple of days.

Rocketman & Hatchiroku,
Sorry to hear about your atty luck. What are you using to power these atty's with? I am still using some that are 6 months old on a Protege with a unprotected Li-ion 14500 battery at 900 mah. It might be that I do drip on the atty and keep it wet. I really don't know what I do to make them last, but they do. Also, I've even cleaned a few of them in boiling hot water and dried them out good before using, with a hair dryer.
I thought I had killed 2 of them but it turned out that all I had to do was clean the tarnish off the brass connections and they started working like new again.
Maybe, the "Great Atty God" has been somehow offended..............
Maybe, he's taking out all his wrath on you because the rest of us have made these atty's live beyond their time.
Great Idea... about the testing. If you keep it up, you might produce a product that will 'vape Forever' :>)

Most of the time, the stuff that came in the carts the way I got them! I tried some foam rubber stuff I had in a shipment of Gateway parts; it was GREAT until I woke up feeling like there was a lump in my throat. Went back to the original stuff. The only other thing I tried is this http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-8530014..._2077_98504358
I was looking for Fluval but tried this instead. It works well, but since I have only been using what comes with the carts.

Does this mean throwing the cart filler away (or, using the empty cart that comes with an atty) and just dripping a few drops onto the metal mesh over the heating element?
I usually fill the cart to full, take a little out so there is a very miniscule 'pool' to prime the metal mesh, and then vape for about 2-3 ciggy's worth. and repeat.

The drippers usually drip straight on the mesh. I take an empty cart (no filler) and put about 5 drops or so in it. Slap it on the atty. Some stays in the cart for a while, hold it level, doesn't flood as easy.

I did have one go Snap...Crackle...Pop...and then lasted about two more hours.
I generally do this with attys that are for one reason or another "under performing" and have stopped giving off the good vapor 510's are known for.
I did this with one last night. It was pissing me off, so...you're going on the Atty Smasher!
It gave off a very light crackling noise. I put it on the pass-thru, and it worked for a couple more hours, then took it with me today and hooked it up to the hmmm...wattomizer? (Something I came up with that I plug into my ciggy lighter in the car. Who needs batteries? 4.2v @ 2.25A, and works quite well!). Lasted all day, and I'm vaping with it now on the USB. After the crackling noise the vapor was amazing, all day the vapor was amazing. Let's see how long it lasts...

I'll waive the $2 fee, just have them send two attys; one for destructive testing (I always did like that job!) and one for a 'fee'. That should keep me in atty's for a while, and save $7-10 each!

I couldn't find the right Fluval in my nearby Petsmart but I did find and am using these Rena brand MicroFiltration Filstar xP pads.
I couldn't find the right picture of the item, but this is close. The pack I bought has pads that are entirely white cotton microfiber. No blue stuff. And the box says MicroFiltration not MicroFiltration+. The box contains 3 pads and they work remarkably well.

Great Idea... about the testing. If you keep it up, you might produce a product that will 'vape Forever' :>) | Read the post that started this thread. I have a real store-bought battery powered USB pass thru, the Atty Smasher (wired directly to the computer's power supply, 5v/20A), batteries, and a variation on Rocketman's Trailer Park using a TI power module set at 12v input 4.2v/2.25A output. The atomizers really seem to like this; they vape quite well, don't get really hot and I don't have to change batteries. It plugs into the ciggy lighter. (I spend a LOT of time in my car...!) When I get sore at an atty, it goes on the Atty Smasher...sometimes it actually makes them better! Most of the time there's a snap...crackle...fizzle, a smell of burning hair and a quick death...
When you figger and atty's normal operation is 7-9 watts, and the Atty Smasher is 5v, approx 3 ohms at up to 20 amps, that's roughly SIXTY to ONE HUNDRED watts...!!!
FFFZZZZZZAAAAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!!! Then I get pi$$ed and have a ciggy...
I'm going to modify the Atty Smasher with one of those TI circuits for 4.2/2.25. Attys seem to like it...

Not for the atomizers; I have SIX cars, mostly beaters, and it's getting cold. The little bas-tard chipmunks will be looking for places to 'live' and they generally find behind the radio box is good, with insulation taken from the floor. The cat died, so I'm sure they'll be looking again. If they go NEAR my tC I'll wring their little necks myself!
LOL! I just read that before clicking "Submit..."...
I did NOT kill the CAT!!!

Denial is not just a river in Egypt, Hachi. And don't kill those poor little chipmunks; put them in a hamster cage with a wheel hooked up to a small generator.... well, you get the idea. You can call it the Junkyard, ideal for paramilitary types who may need to take extended "camping trips" in the mountains.... Something for everybody, right?

OK. I have one question before I continue...WHAT IS FLUVAL? I have seen a number of posts of people using Fluval, and when I first got my 510 I went into a pet store and they had...7 different things labeled "Fluval". So, WHICH Fluval am I looking for? (Seems to be a brand name...)
Now, on to more atty killing...it seems to me the people having the best luck with their attys are using something other than the standard battery, either a megabattery from some place like TW, or some sort of mod that either contains a MUCH larger battery, or are operating it at a higher voltage then 3.7.
So, for those of you with good luck with attys, what are you using for power, and for those of you, like me, who can't seem to make an atty last past tomorrow, what are you using for power?
Maybe we can find the Common Denominator here...

The Rena brand works just as well Hachi, no need to focus solely on Fluval brand.

Okay, Hachi, I searched "Fluval" on the forum and found one of the posts with a picture of the same stuff I got (the white). Several posts in this thread discuss the mysterious Fluval... http://www.vapeatron.com/cart-filler-discovery-1671/
As for atty health, I use both mega-power and standard 510 batts and my attys seem to like both just fine.
