I haven't died from using this stuff yet, although my wife tells me I shouldn't use it. (It's only plastic, ya know! It's not like it is exposed to an open flame before I inhale!)
Tom | We used to contract with Gateway, and they shipped a screen surrounded by a foam rubber that was something like a makeup applicator. I tried it and it worked GREAT! Marvelous clouds of vapor, the cart would empty completely, etc. I took it with me to a gig and was blowing clouds of vapor so thick the bartender came over and said you can't smoke in here...then I showed her what it was.
We played till 1AM, and then I got home at 2:30. When I woke up the next day it felt like there was a lump in my throat. I pulled the stuff out and refilled it with the original cart material...no problem...
Gotta wonder what you're huffing sometimes...
I'm beginning to wonder if vaping is all that good. I figured I wouldn't be cleaning the windows in my car as much, but it is actually WORSE! If the stuff is gumming up my windshield...

| Ah, but the stuff coating your windshield isn't poisonous tobacco smoke residue, which has been proven to be bad for you.
Want something that has been proven bad for you, or something that has not been proven bad for you yet?
Hey, I'll take doubt, any day of the week.
Well, pretty sure about the doubt part. |

| I don't know about a brite Scotchmen being used but I would imagine it is hard to fit them in that little cart and who would be there to protect them?? If PETA is for Fluvals, who watches over the Scottish? |

| The only two 510 attys I had that died on me I had set aside for a month or so. I don't know what inspired me to check them out with my mega battery today but they are both working great again. Maybe they just needed a rest or something. |

Another interesting thing, when I checked a 'dead' 901, it measure 1.3 MegOhms!!!!
That would take a lot of voltage to get to produce steam. I wonder if the kitchen stove is wired for 220...........

| I boiled an atty today. My 'oldest' one, going on two weeks now. A new record, I think, for me anyway. Anyway, I boiled it for about 5 minutes, blew the water out from the battery end, let is dry a little and then did a couple of cartless puffs. With a new cart, it acts like a new atty. We'll see how long it lasts from here...

| Okay atty smasher... Question?
During my weekly "spa" revitalizing for atty's I accidentally pulled one apart. (A near new one!)
Tried to solder the wires back... long story short... I dissolved a good part of the wires with the Weller. If I connect (solder) with new ones to the cap (threaded end piece) should I not be able to solder (splice)the wires I melted to the new ones?
Any special procedure I should follow? (Looking now for very thin shielded wire.)

| Pain in the neck, but yes.
The wires are brittle and really hard to work with.
A good source of small gauge wire (stranded and insulated) is a cheap set of ear buds, like the Dollar Store kind or their ultra high quality audio patch cables. Stranded wire is more flexible and easier to work with. Tin both ends first, use a little longer piece than necessary, but still short enough to stuff back in the atty.
While your at the dollar store don't forget to pickup:
Dollar Macro Adapter (3.5 size),
Dollar MOD Cases.
These are about a dollar each

Rocket | AWESOME! I already had one of those (cheap pieces of $1 store crap) earbuds! (Donated now to science, may they rest in peace.)
I may wait and get a low voltage soldering iron. (The Weller gun gets to hot me thinks.)
Any recommendations for wattage... 25w? 50w?
You da man Rocket bud! Many thanks!

| Wahl has a nice rechargeable, model 7700, heats fast, hot, low mass tips works for small things.
And Weller does have a cheaper variable power AC unit.
$15 to $25 for a Radio Shack Pencil, or $50 to $60 for something better.
Depends on how much you plan on using it.
(I need to start looking down the thread and read before I post.)
Not a Problem Stehle

| Hmmm...Now this is interesting...
I measured the amount of current drawn at the source for my 4.2V Atty Smasher, and at 12V input it draws .75A, but at 5V input it draws 1.25A. The output of the circuit is max 2.25A, more than enough to cook juice at 4.2V. Now, in the car I was running on straight 12V (actually, up to 13.8V for a properly functioning alternator...) and whooping up clouds of vapor. Then I started to get the funny, "burning hair" taste that tells me an atty is about to give itself up to research...I looked around the car and realized I had something to use as an alternative power source.
I have 2 XM receivers, the older ones that use 6V power supplies. It is rated at 6V@1000mA, or 1 Amp. Hmmmm....And it FITS the connector I used!! OK, but...no vapor. Nothing. Dead atty? Put it on a battery and puffed up a storm...I reconnected it, but when I had put it down on the seat, the connector moved. I hit the button. there was a buzzing sound from the AM radio and...a great big cloud! So, now it's running 4.2V from a 6V, 1A input. I hope I can get more of those power adapters on eBay...I might need a new one soon...
now, if I'm feeling really adventurous, a HV atty, 6V@1A=6 watts, just about where you want to be. Problem is, at 6V, 3 ohms wants to pull 2A...
I see another mod in my future...

| Hey y'all long time me no post ... lol
Have you ever tried using a cold solder gun? I have a couple from my computer days, I think the wiring is fine enough to be effective with one ... as soon as xmas is done I'm going to start playing.
I actually think i'm going to shoot for a juice box mod, I talked on the phone with snarky and he highly recommends them.
BTW rocket, the VG I had with PGA works really well but I think I got a bunk batch of PG. |

This actually makes a good deal of sense, since instead of applying an already HOT soldering iron to a prat that has a delicate insulator, you apply cold and only use as much heat as neccessary...very interesting! Let us know how you make out!
