Study of electronic cigarettes: cotinine analysis

Thank you for participating in this study and for your willingness to provide a saliva sample for cotinine analysis. Cotinine is a breakdown product of nicotine by the liver.
this analysis will help determine the amount of nicotine inhaled by electronic cigarette users, in comparison of non-users. The salivia samplpes will be used soley for the cotinine analysis and will be destroyed afterwards. The study is independent of manufacturers and sellers of electronic cigarettes and of the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries.The data will be stored on a computer file to allow statistical analysis. Your answers will not be disclosed to any 3rd parties. The data will made anonymous before we undertake statistical analysis. If you do not want your answers to be stored, please do not respond. The results of the analysis will be published in a scientific journal. The study began in March 2010 and ends December 2011. We expect 1500 participants in total.
Attached is a consent form, a brief questionnaire and a plastic container to collect saliva with instructions. Please collect the saliva sample as indicated and return it to us by air mail. The following items must be included in the envelope: plastic container with saliva sample, consent form and completed questionnaire.
