So yeah.... I have no idea why my mod is vaping like a toddler trying to jump a hurdle. Checked the wires and solder points No shorts. All solder points were clean and made full contact not pretty just clean, I'm at a loss.

2AA battery holder

slide switch

Monetary switch

2Leds with 460ohm resisters on each (not in series)

Non-rechargable 3.6 2200mah Tadiran lithium battery ( my daughter ate the box so i don't have the # from it

Mike,
I'll try a little blind troubleshooting.
Some of what I come up with may be obvious to you, so don't feel slighted.

If the "NON" rechargeable battery still has a charge it should power the atty.
The model you bought (RadioShack, right?) is primarily for memory backup applications, not high current applications. But still should heat an atty a few times.

You may have a series/parallel issue with the switches, LEDs resistors etc.
Trace out your wiring and make sure the following appies to your wiring:

one terminal of the battery connector goes to the slide switch then to BOTH the power LED and the push button switch (BOTH in parallel with each other).
The power LED/resistor in series then is connected to the other battery terminal.
LED goes on and off with power switch?

The Pushbutton vape switch then goes to both the vape LED/resistor and the atty connector in PARALLEL. Then each LED/resistor and the atty connector go back to the other battery terminal.

with NO atty attached, the power light go on and off?
When you press the vape button the vape light goes on?
Remember now, no atty attached.

Now put an atty on and turn on power, light on?
Press vape button, vape light about as bright as before?

If vape LED did not come on without an atty but does with an atty, the two may be in series instead of parallel.

If vape light and power light go dim with an atty but light up without it, the battery just won't do it.

Help?

Good thing she didn't eat the batteries!

Try temporarily removing the LEDs from the circuit. They may be sucking up too much current and keeping the atty from running fully. Wait, is that LCDs?!?! Take them out of the circuit and let the battery feed the atty fullbore.

Also, take a meter and check the resistance of the circuit with the LED/LCDs in and out. There should be no more that a coupe tenths of an ohm resistance through the two switches and the connector. If there is, look around, especially at the switches.

Both lights are full brightness with no atty and all switches on. With an atty they die out. I'm thinking the battery just can't handle it. 3.8 ohms resistance with atty and all switches active.

And i meant led

If you don't have a meter, one LED and resistor directly across the battery terminals.

Will light and monitor battery voltage, regardless of rest of circuit.
Then try with atty. LED and resistor directly connected to battery will tell you what is going on with battery voltage.

The memory backup batteries may have an internal resistor to limit current.
Their purpose is to supply micro-miniature current for years to keep memory circuits alive.

.455 amps

fully loaded

tried the led across the terminals it looks like the battery just dies when i activate the atomizer

Yeah i'm thinking your right on the battery cut-off Rocket. Looks like this is becoming a double Cr2 5v Mod tommorow. Sigh... my wife's gonna kill me when i say i'm heading to the shack again.

Ok after alot of digging. Remember i'm not that electronic from scratch savvy. I found out my issue. The taridan backup battery i purchased (TL 5903) is a 3.6v battery but the rated current is only 100ma continuous and 200 ma pulse. Where my mod just the leds run at 3.36 ma and with the atty switch active the current is at 330 ma- 350ma. I'm still not sure whether or not the battery is cutting off or just can't handle it. But i' going to assume that most e-cigs run at approximately the same measurements. Back to battery shopping for me.

Here's the link to this batteries specs

I assumed wrong i made a rig to check current though my 510 atty using my 510 battery. The current was 1.45 A with the joy atty and 1A with the clone. Back to battery shopping again.

You can't buy batteries 'locally'. That battery, whatever the hell it's used for is best in the trash heap.

Get some of these:

TrustFire Protected 14500 3.7V 900mAh Lithium Battery w/ PCB [TrustFire 14500] - $2.68 : High Tech DealZ, Simplifying the LASER Hobby!

Note the price includes shipping, and these are the 'Retail' versions (fancy print and logo, protection clearly stated), not the generic (probably an over run of some OEM order) ones floating around.
