This is how I do it on my 901 carts:
Pull the fiber out of the cart with a tweezers - note how it is folded in thirds. Try not to touch it with your bare fingers, the nic in it can soak right into your skin.
Hold the fiber under some warm running water until it turns white. It won't take long, the juice washes right out. Unfold it while you are rinsing it. Rinse the cart out as well. Gently dry it with a paper towel or something absorbent. Try not to crunch it or smash it flat, you want it to remain as "fluffy" as possible. Dry out the plastic cart with a q-tip or something similar.
After it is dry, fold it back up like it was originally, and grab it by the bottom with the tweezers so the bulk of the fiber is up between the tines of the tweezers. Insert it all the way back into the cart with the tweezers. Remove the tweezers while holding down the fiber.
You now have a clean cart ready to be filled. I've found that this only works 3-4 times before the fiber gets too flattened/old.

If you REALLY want to extend the life of your carts, I've read about cutting new squares of fiber from inexpensive filter material bought in bulk at fish/aquarium shops - but I haven't tried that yet. Be careful, as you want to use PLAIN fiber - not something with activated charcoal or chemicals.

| Have you tried to squeeze out the liquid to reuse before you wash the fiber? |

| No - that just sounds gross to me, reusing the bit of brown leftover juice (and it does turn a gross brown). If I were running low I might try it, but I make sure to keep a good fresh supply on hand.

| I've tried squeezing it out once and that juice is indeed very nasty.
I think what I'll do from here on in is just smoke the carts fairly dry, then chuck the dirty fiber out, and then replace with the aquarium filter stuff.
This results in a lot less hassle, is inexpensive, and all vapour is fresh. |

| For me, it just seems easier to buy empty carts or prefilled ones. I just don't see them being that expensive that I'd need to rinse them out for reuse.
Nonetheless, to each his own, glad to know the resource is out here in case I ever need it. |

| I have used a real cigarette filter and that worked great. Just cut off a small piece and insert it into the cartridge! |

| I've read a few people talking about concern of refilling their empty carts with possibly toxic material and unsure if that fluval stuff could be potentially hazardous. So I was wondering if anyone had ever thought of or tried using cotton prefold diapers? Washable diapers are meant to be extremely absorbent and the material can be safely washed in your machine with plain water. Actually if you read anything about cloth diapers all of them give instructions to wash them several times before first use because it causes them to "quilt up" which is what makes them so absorbent. Cotton is also obviously a natural fiber which shouldn't cause any concern as to toxicity. And as for cost I think you can buy a 10 pack of them at almost any WalMart or Kmart for less then 10 dollars. I imagine you could cut that much material into a lot of refills for cartridges. Unless someone says otherwise I think this is the method I am going to try once I get my e-cig since I haven't actually started yet. |

| I am totally sold on using the Lipton pyramid tea bags for filler in my 510 and volcano cartridges. It's cheap, easy to clean, easy to cut and roll into any shape, holds twice the juice. If there's a way to wrap your filler, then you should be able to use it on other models too.
I bought a box of 20 Lipton Black Pearl pyramid tea bags for $2.00 (sale) at W-Mart and one tea bag makes two 510 cartridge fillers with leftovers making one volcano cartridge filler.
Last round, I made the tea first THEN dumped out the tea leaves, rinsed the bag, cut and used it.

| I'm fairly new to vaping. Now about a month. I use fluval to stuff my carts with. If safety is the big issue, think about it. Fish are sensitive to everything. I have no problems with fluval and it sure is more cost efficient than buying new carts all the time. |

| hairball,
using Fluval to filter aquarium water to get fish sheet out of it ,
and filtering e-juice might be a more parallel analogy.
Neither us or the fish would appreciate the fumes that come off melting Fluval.
Whatever filler you use, or don't use, keep things wet with either unfiltered aquarium water or e-juice, and don't overheat cartos, attys, or filler.
Now that's a new juice flavor idea: Fish-sheet, Fishit, Fisheet?
Would "used" Fluval have more nutrients in it?

| Rocketman,
That is totally gross. Use new fluval. Are you having a bad day or just like to torment? There is a product on the market, it's called MIDOL, that helps with PMS which is what I believe you are suffering from. Quote:

| lol,
Just don't get it hot enough to melt and you'll be OK.
Fish or no fish, melting fluval, melting foam, melting anything is not a desirable vaping product. Don't overheat. Heating stuff and inhaling it safely is new territory.
I go take meds now

| Cartridge fillers can be dunked in cold water, soaked in warm water, swilled in detergent and hot water – the choice is yours. Simply wash them however you think best and ensure you rinse them well. |

| I have tried the tea bags, they work pretty good, seems like a waste of tea though.
The best I have found is the blue foam, it's cheap, holds lots of fluid, easy to clean and never has a burnt taste to it. (at least I have not noticed it like the fluval)
Pick it up at the pet store, Marineland Rite-Size U Bonded Foam Sleeve, I cut away the seams, and there is still enough to last the average smoker a few years.
Looks like this: Marineland Rite-Size U Bonded Foam Sleeve Aquarium Filter Sleeves
Here is a guy using it, not sure it's the best method, but you get the idea. http://www.ecigsavings.com/refill-yo...ing-blue-foam/

| Nope just tea bags and the marineland blue foam.
I just find the blue foam to be easier than tea bags, both work pretty good. Tea bags are okay, but you have to fold them just right, and that takes too much time for me. (okay, maybe I am a little lazy too) |
