Techniques for puffing on an e-cigarette are much different than smoking a tobacco cigarette. This is one of the most off-putting things for people coming in from traditional smoking. However, once you understand you need to do this, and start changing the way you drag, you'll be vaping in no time!
Generally, dragging takes a little more effort. It's not as automatic as a tobacco cig. Many will need to suck in, fill up their mouth with smoke, and then inhale to lungs. This is more in tune with how people smoke "marijuana". Even if you've never done that, think about how you see folks do it in movies, and somewhere between that and inhaling a real cig is where you will be with an e-cigarette.
Primer Puffs. You need to get your atomizer hot before it can generate vapor. So, many people do a "primer puff". This is a quick inhale without the intention of actually vaping anything. You just turned on the atomizer real quick. This heats it up. A second later or so, you can then do your inhale as you normally would. And the vapor will be as it should be. Practice with this if you need too, some models need it more than others.
Rapid Fire. Because of the above mentioned "needing to heat the atomizer" - people do rapid fire puffing. This is several short and quick puffs. It allows the atomizer to heat up and cool down several times in a couple seconds. If done right, this can "trick" the atomizer into thinking you weren't dragging for more than 5 seconds, and allow you to vape longer than that (Many models have a cut off period for how long you can inhale, so you don't burn out the atomizer.)
More to come!

I have found its generally best to take soft (just hard enough to light it) long drags, in rounds of about 3-5 drags. I allow 1-2 minutes between "rounds" for cooling.
